Simon and Schuster, 1939. First Edition. Hardcover. Good. 96 pages. With 10 color full-page plates and 12 B/W plates some with borders in color. 12 x 9.25 inches. Inscribed by the author and illustrator in separate hand: 'To Catherine and Chauncey Waddell this book is affectionately dedicated by Grace Castagnetta / and Respectfully so by their obedient servant Hendrik Willem van Loon.' First edition (first printing). A very good copy in illustrated paper over board covers with edge and corner wear with boards showing at the corners. Some tanning to cover edges. In good dust jacket with overall tanning, edge and corner wear, large chips missing and tears at folds.
