An English gift inscription dated "Christmas 1925" is written on a front free fly-leaf; the same fly-leaf contains a strip of minor rubbing/chaffing where an old Christmas card (now loosely inserted) was mounted. Anatole France (1844-1924) was a French journalist and novelist. In 1921 he won the Nobel Prize in literature. His play "La comédie de celui qui épousa une femme muette" was first published in 1908.
