Prague: S.V.U. Mánes, 1934. Octavo (20 × 13.8 cm). Original printed light pink wrappers, pictorial dust jacket illustrated with a drawing by Toyen; 180, [2] pp. A very good copy in a good dust wrapper; the wrapper with dust-soiling and small nicks to upper edges and spine extremities. First Czech edition of Breton's essay, originally published in 1932, and largely concerned with the surprising parallelisms between dreams and waking states, which he summarizes in the image of "communicating vessels." The work also reveals his partial indebtedness to Freudian dream analysis. Rare in such fine condition. Vloemans 296.
