About This Item
Elephant folio, leather spine and tips, gilt title on top cover, illustrated with 54 plates and maps. Hinges a little tender, but still pretty firm spine frayed, and partially detached at bottom, edgewear, paper a bit browned and toned, endpaper torn. Overall very good. The atlas provides maps and charts on all sorts of statistics from the nine censuses, taken in 1870. This includes occupations of people, race, literacy, population density, political divisions, age and sex, and religious affiliation. Much of this material is illustrated in maps and charts. While some copies are said to include 60 plates and or maps, this copy has 54. The number is consistent with the number presented in the index. Rather scarce item, the OCLC locates few copies. Extra postage required.
