1825 Studies of CHESS Philidor & Pratt Strategy Rules Instruction Games Diagrams

François-André Danican Philidor (1726–1795) was a French chess player and was regarded as the best chess player of his age. His book 'Analyse du jeu des Echecs' was considered a standard chess manual for a century and a well-known chess opening and a checkmate method are named after him. He was also the first to play blindfolded chess against two opponents simultaneously.

'Studies of Chess' is an interesting pairing of Philidor and Peter Pratt's works on chess. It is filled with illustrated examples of gameplay, strategy, opening moves, and tips on winning, as well as analysis, commentary, and diagrams.

Description:
1891 CUSTER Indian Wars era Tenting Old Camp Ground Kittredge Civil War Songs

A self-taught American musician Walter Kittredge is best known for the war-themed songs he wrote during the Civil War. Before the war, he traveled as a minstrel throughout the Northeast both alone and with the famous Hutchinson Family Singers. Kittredge wrote over 500 songs and ballads sung by both the North and the South, the most famous of which include "Tenting on the Old Camp Ground" and "When They Come Marching Home". "Tenting On The Old Camp Ground" (also known as "Tenting Tonight") was a popular song during the Civil War, particularly to the Union Army. This song is about the life of a solider, missing home and loved ones and the men dying or wounded in battle.
This 1891 edition includes excellent illustrations by Charles Copeland with the words of Kittredge's famous song throughout the book. The song, with its original musical score, is also printed at the end.

Frank Moore was a notable American Civil War historian known for his portrayals of Civil War life and culture. One of his most important works was 'Women of the War'. While this work focuses primarily on the biographical accounts of individual women, Moore also describes the hardships and sacrifices made by American women during the war and provides an interesting account of how these women influenced Gettysburg. Moore covers the lives of the following women, most of whom are wives of Civil War officers:

P.B. Hurd
·
Mary Lee
·
Mrs. John Harris
·
Charlotte McKay
