London: The China Society, 1960. Hardcover. Near Fine/Good. 8vo. China Society Sinological Series, Edited by Cyril Birch, No. 6. Based on a lecture delivered before The China Society on 26 June 1957. 51 p.p. Blue cloth boards with black lettering to front board. Damp stain to rear board. Dust jacket has some wear, chips to spine ends (with loss), chips to corners, a few small perforations to joints, sunning to edges, price is clipped. B&W illustration to verso of title page. Su Man-Shu was a Chinese writer, poet, painter, revolutionist, and a translator born in Japan. He became a Buddhist monk three times during his life. He studied in Japan and traveled to many Buddhist countries including India and Java, and was involved in revolutionary activity against the Qing Dynasty. He died at the age of 34 in Shanghai, reputedly of eating 60 meat dumplings to win a bet.
