One volume bound in full leather with 5 raised bands on spine and glit design on spine and cover, in Latin full-color facsimile with many color illustrations. LIMITED EDITION numbered 324. Second volume is the commentary volume in German, with a paper hardcover 184 pages. Slipcase for the two colume set with red pasted label on spine with gilt lettering. This is the handbook of the natural powers of plants, minerals and other items expalining their nature, their uses, their harmfulness, and how to prevent harm. This handbook of popular health care, written and illuminated in Venice, Italy around 1490, and later temporarily in the possession of Prince Eugen of Savoy, has been kept since 1737/38 in the Vienna Court Library. The abundantly illustrated manuscript holds a prominent position in the rich tradition of medieval Tacuinum Sanitatis manuscripts. Based on one of the earlier Arabian originals its 294 chapters represent the most extensive, systematic collection of all illustrated health regelments we know. Includes bibliographies and indexes.
