About This Item
Pamphlet, Illustrations from photographs. 16x11 cm (6¾x4½"), original pictorial wrappers, 32 pp. Light wear, a little staining, foxing; normal aging for this kind of paper, very good. George was convicted of murder in 1884 and was sentenced to be hanged, but was ''respited'' by Governor John Ireland who later commuted his sentence to life imprisonment in Huntsville (where John Wesley Hardin was also serving time). George was eventually exonerated and fully pardoned by Governor Sul Ross when a fellow prisoner confessed to the murder. The front cover shows a gallows, and the back cover features an illustration of a prisoner, presumably George, in striped prison garb. Adams, Six-Guns 822.
