Number 8 of an edition of 60 copies for America, handsomely bound in contemporary half crushed morocco over marbled boards, spine with five raised bands and ornate gilt decorations and lettering, marbled end pages, top edge gilt. Very Good, faint damping along bottom margin limitation page through title page and again at corners of illustration, seemingly caused in the production of the steel engravings, and not affecting the engravings or the text. RARE in this smaller limited edition, Stokes also published an edition of 1500 copies the same year. . Limited and Numbered Edition. Half Morocco. Very Good Plus, small chips at top edge front end paper, light soiling to linen covers. prior owner name in ink front end page, a few spots of toning to frontis illustration. The two blank front end pages each with full page manuscript in pencil, the firtst dated Dec. 2nd, 1894, the 2nd, Dec. 2nd, 1944. The first speaks of the value of these poems "to stretch to suit a great grief, and shrink to fit a small one", and the 2nd, a poem by an unknown author that clearly relates to a WW II loss. . Marbled endpapers. Pages have slight foxing, tanning and minor thumbing. Foxing more noticeable towards the start and end of the book and on text block edges. A few dog-eared corners. Slight water staining to few pages. Ex libris plate to front pastedown. Previous owner's inscription to front endpaper and title page. Boards have heavy edge wear, with intense bumping and fraying to corners, while spine ends are very crushed and peeled. Joints worn too with splits. Scratched, rubbed and marked overall. Heavy liquid stains overall. Slight pale stains to front. Spine and surrounding area very darkened.

From the estate of my great-great grandfather.Includes many unique poems and recitations such as "To a skull", "Uncle Daniel's Introduction to a Mississippi Steamer", "The Leak in the Dyke", etc. More well-known poetry includes "Song of Birds", "Old Ironsides", and "Bannock Burn" by Robbie Burns. Light rubbing and bumps to outside spine edges. Back cover and interior cloth covered board has a stain at top. Original owner's name and address from 1908, but no other writing or marks. First 2 pages have a stain at top, but text of 192 pages of poetry and recitations is totally clean with light tanning of pages.

The author's non-linear poem about the billeting of soldiers in civilian homes in wartime. Copy 89 of a limited edition of 250. Folded into the form of a letter, the work was letterpress printed in wraps of handmade "combat paper" made from military uniforms. The author says: "Some time ago-maybe a year, maybe two?
