Prague: Quido Langhans, 1924-1932. Quartos (ca. 28 × 20 cm. each). Publisher's pictorial self-wrappers; 12 pp. per issue. About very good; a few removed staples and a few issues slightly resized. A partial run of year 6 (1930), all in original wrappers, of the astonishing satirical journal of the Czech avant-garde period, abundantly illustrated with striking typography, and richly colorful caricatures. With many short satirical texts and aphorisms, set in appealing typography, and often using pseudonyms. Among the better-known contributors are the famous interwar caricaturist František Bidlo (1895-1945), Zdena Ančík, as well as Janota, Tichý, Gogo, Házet, Kalatko, O. Fuchs, and other underappreciated caricaturists and illustrators of the period. Many of the caricatures are political in nature, taking aim both at domestic leaders and foreign ones, such as Mussolini. Several issues feature the literary supplement "Litr" with translations of Rimbaud, etc. Copies in the original fragile wrappers are scarce. KVK, OCLC only show various years at NYPL (vol. 4 and 5), Chicago (vols. 5-9), an incomplete vol. 1 at Berkeley, vols. 1-6 at AIC, and 1-5 at Yale.
