New York, 1951. unbound. very good. Fine content T.L.S. 8vo. 1 page, New York, October 15, 1951, pertaining to his explosive expose in a series of articles in The New Yorker about art dealer Joseph Duveen, in full: "Thank you very much for your kind note about Duveen. I am delighted that you like it. I hope you continue to like it, I regret to inform you that there will be six parts, so if you are faithful you will have a bust fall. Thank you again for writing me. It was hard work and such a note as yours is a compensation." *Behrman's expose revealed a startling number of masterpieces were placed in American museums because of the shrewdness of one man, Joseph Duveen, art dealer to John D. Rockefeller, Andrew Mellon, Henry Clay Frick, and William Randolph Hearst. Unfortunately he was also able to uncover the wheeling and dealing behind the sale of several nearly-but-not-quite-priceless Rembrandts, Vermeers and Bellini's that turned out to be fakes. Boldly signed and in excellent condition.

American playwright, biographer, and longtime writer for The New Yorker.

Description:
Very Good. 1950. Manuscripts/paper collectibles. Single sheet, single-sided 6.25" X 8.25" typed letter addressed to "Kit" (Katharine Cornell) dated June 26, 1950. 2nd paragraph reads: "About the play: certainly I should be the last to urge you to do something you haven't a wholehearted enthusiasm for. That would be as wrong for you as it would be for me to write something I didn't fundamentally believe in. I am sorry of course because working with you and Guthrie is quite special, even unique. But if you haven't got the feeling of doing Jane by this time you never will and I am wiring Harold to proceed with it elsewhere." Katharine Cornell was an American stage actress and Guthrie McClintic was a theatre director/producer. Signed in faded ink "Fond love to you both. Sam. " The name "Behrman" is pencilled next to the signature. Single horizontal fold, slight soil, paper clip rust. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; Signed by Author .

Description:
New York, 1951. unbound. very good. Fine content T.L.S. 8vo. 1 page, New York, December 20, 1951, reminiscing about his life-long friend Siegfried Sassoon, in full: "I am very much interested that you refer to our meeting with Sassoon. I am getting old and my memory evidently is not what it used to be. I would love to recall that meeting with you and I'll drop in on you as soon as I get a chance. At the minute I have a play in rehearsal and it takes up most of my time. But I'll look in; I want to meet you and reminisce. I shall wear, when I enter your establishment, reinforced coat lapels." *A newspaper article Behrman conducted with Sasson, when the British poet was visiting New York after World War I, led to a lifelong friendship and many visits to Sassoon's country house when he was in England. Boldly signed and in excellent condition.

American playwright, screenwriter, and longtime writer for The New Yorker.
