About This Item

Jarrold Publishers, London, 1963. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good Condition/Very Good. Illustrator: Biro -- Dustwrapper. as can be seen in the attached image the rear panel shows tanning from sunlight on the top and left-hand edges. There is no other damage to describe. Indeed the book could otherwise have been described as "near fine." Dustjacket designed by Biro. was Catherine Dickens a stupid and unimaginative woman? Most biographers appear to have thought so and in presenting her as a week and the personality they have explained, if not excused, her husband's scandalous treatment of her. Intensified researchers justified the author and her contention that Catherine was neither dull nought avoided character. Contrary to almost everything else that has been written about the misunderstood woman, she was a capable wife, intelligent and sensitive – and through her sensitivity vulnerable. – Dustjacket blurb Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. 240 pages.
