About This Item

NY: FARRAR, STRAUS & GIROUX. Fine. Hardcover. First Edition. 1989.

Synopsis

Written and illustrated by Nancy Ekholm Burkert, Valentine and Orson is a retelling of a medieval tale from the Carolingian cycle.  The story is of twin brothers, separated just after birth. One is raised in the French court, and the other in the woods by a bear. This version is written in iambic pentameter couplets, and "performed" by a theater troupe in the accompanying illustrations. "Bear witness, / Friends, to forces of forgiveness, / True devotion, and humility, / For they unite us as a family."
