Owner ink markings on free endpaper illegible, ink signature Abel Dickinson June 1830 on preliminary leaf. Identified on the title page only as "A Citizen of the United States," author Niles was a lawyer, editor and politician from Connecticut.

John Milton Niles (August 20, 1787 – May 31, 1856) was a lawyer, editor, author and politician from Connecticut, serving in the United States Senate and as United States Postmaster General 1840 to 1841. Signed copies rarely offered.

The covers show scuffing and light soiling, edge-wear, and light rubbing to the joints, corners, and spine-ends. There is some wear/cracking to the front hinge, but with the binding solid. The contents are bright and legible, but with some scattered foxing and soiling throughout. .
