New York, [1889]., [1889].. Good. - A 4-7/8 inch high by 3-1/4 inch wide black & white photograph by Solomon of a young actor, possibly Tommy Russell, mounted on a 6-1/2 inch high by 4-1/4 inch wide cream card mount framed with a red border. The image depicts the young long haired boy attired in costume with long lace collar over a dark plush jacket. "Solomon, New York" is printed in red on the mount under the photograph. A list of "Characters in 'Little Lord Fauntleroy'" is printed on the verso above a list of the setting for each scene. The text on the verso concludes with "Under the Management of Mr. T.H. French". There is some minor rubbing to the edges of the recto. There is scattered foxing to the photograph and the mount. Both the recto and verso of the card mount are soiled and darkened with minor wear to the corners.
Tommy Russell played the title character in the Broadway production of Frances Hodgson Burnett's "Little Lord Fauntleroy" alternating with Elsie Leslie. Born circa 1880, he is believed to be the first boy to play Cedric Erroll in the play. Russell was managed by T.H. French while performing at the Columbia Theatre in May 1889.
