Octavo, blue cloth spine and blue decorated boards, top edges gilt, others rough trimmed. pp (2), (x), 193, (3) + 12 colour plates with captioned tissue guards. Some light spots to lower spine with gilt publisher's imprint faded; shelf rubbing to edges of boards; outer corners have rubbing and soft bumps; yellowing to page edges; ink name at front; offset endpaper tanning; creases to upper edges of a few leaves near middle; some foxing early and late; else a VG clean and tight copy. Outstanding illustrations from watercolours by Norman Wilkinson, best known for his memorable settings and costumes for the theatre. VIRGINIBUS PUERISQUE (for boys and girls), was first published in 1881 and was his first book of essays. .

Enhanced with 12 lovely Full Page Colour Plates of Norman Wilkinson's Watercolour Paintings, all protected with captioned Tissue Guards. Other Papers include "Crabbed Age and Youth", "an Apology for Idlers", "The English Admirals", "Pan's Pipes, and more." Attractive quarter cloth cover with blue cloth spine and blue & green floral design on paper covered boards. Bright gilt lettering to spine. Plain grey dustjacket with Dark Grey Lettering which includes details of the Limited Edition. 8 3/4" Tall. Slight edge wear. Gift inscription on ffep dated 1921. Jacket has 2 small closed tears at the back (3/4" long) and a longer closed tear on spine edge (3" long). All now carefully repaired on the inside with tape. Size: 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall
