Very good copy of the first edition of the second guidebook (the first was by John Bridgeman in 1817) to the splendid Elizabethan house in Sevenoaks, seat of the Sackville family. Full page frontispiece of the mansion, vignette illustrations, folding genealogical chart, errata slip tipped-in. Chapters on the family, the park, the house and the rooms shown to visitors. A notable descendant, writer Vita Sackville-West published "Knole and the Sackvilles" in 1922 and was the lover of Virginia Woolf, whose novel "Orlando" drew from the history of the house. Also an inspiration to the Beatles and the video for "Strawberry Fields Forever" and "Penny Lane.". 1st Edition.. Cloth. Very Good.. 8vo.
