London: Richard Phillips, 1806. First English edition. Hardcover. Modern black cloth with black leather spine label lettered in gilt. Near fine. 181 pages, 3 pp. Index. Small 4to, 21 1/2 x 13 cm. Folding map and seven aquatint plates, many with two images per plate. Translated from the French. 18th century account of European activity in West Africa. The English captured Isle St. Louis and Senegal in 1758; the French regaining possession twenty years later. BRUNET Vol. III, p. 903. Intermittent light text foxing, a few plates closely cropped with loss to one of a caption, plates bright and clean.
