Vol. I, Nos. 13, 18, 23, 27, 33, 35, 51, each containing a contribution by Frank Forester. 1 vols. Lg 4to. Newspaper Instalments of 'The Warwick Woodlands'. The above installments comprise the first six chapters of The Warwick Woodlands, reprinted immediately after their initial appearance in The American Turf Register and Sporting Magazine, for which Forester had written them; also reprinted (in No. 51) is his story "The Last Bear". These seven pieces are Forester's complete contribution to The Corsair. The Warwick Woodlands, Or Things As They Were There, Ten Years Ago--generally acclaimed as Herbert's finest sporting novel--first appeared in book form in 1845.

Although the Van Winkle sale contained other examples of Herbert's periodical contributions, no copy of The Corsair was among them. Laid in is a Grolier Club form, dated February 18, 1937, signed by Philip Hofer as Chairman of the Committee on Arrangements, thanking the then owner for the loan of this volume for the Club's exhibition of American Sporting Books.
