London: Tinsley Brothers, 1873. Pp. ix, 335, [16] - publisher's catalogue dated March 1873. Frontispiece engraving "The Twelve at Montreal," also engraved frontispiece portrait. Original red cloth with oval gilt-stamped portrait of W.G. Grace to front cover, gilt lettered spine. Joints and tips rubbed, shaken, spine a bit soiled and faded with chipping to head and tail, two tiny tickets of Ottawa booksellers. Overall, quite good. One of the first cricket tour books. Deals primarily with the Marylebone Cricket Club's (M.C.C.) tour of Canada in 1872. Fritzgerald was the secretary of the M.C.C. at the time. The one stipulation of the Canadians was that W.G. Grace was to be a member of the touring party. It seems his fame had crossed the Atlantic, as the greatest cricketer in the world, this at the age of 25. An important and rare book.. First Edition.
