Description:
New York: Random House, 1965. First edition of McCarthy's first book. Octavo, original half cloth. Association copy, inscribed by the author in a contemporary hand on the front free endpaper, "To John Sheddan Cormac McCarthy." The recipient, John Sheddan was a close friend of McCarthy's. "Some of McCarthy's friends claim that the character Gene Harrogate (a character in McCarthy's novel, Suttree), or at least his watermelon venture, was based in some way on John Sheddan, "scholar, schemer, hustler, melon paramour" (Gibson 23)... However in a letter of response to Gibson's article, Knoxvillian Buzz Kelley writes that Sheddan was "probably McCarthy's best and most loyal friend from the Knoxville crowd," holder of two master's degrees, and not at all "a violator of vegetables nor one to fornicate with fruits" (Dianne C. Luce, Reading the World: Cormac McCarthy's Tennessee Period). Near fine in a near fine price-clipped dust jacket. Jacket design by Muriel Nasser. Housed in a custom half morocco… Read more

Association copy, inscribed by the author in the month of publication on the front free endpaper, "For John Sheddan At Saxon Oaks Manor In April of 1985 All the best, old friend Cormac." The recipient John Sheddan was a close friend of McCarthy's. Description:
New York: Random House, 1985. First Edition. Near Fine/Very Good +. Original red cloth-backed red boards, spine lettered in gilt. A Near Fine copy of the book with light foxing to the closed page block and three leaves pasted to the rear paste-down (a publisher's flaw and therefore one of the free copies given to the author). With the brightly colored dust jacket in Very Good + condition; a short 10 mm closed tear to top of front joint with associated bend. Presentation inscription on the half title to environmental writer and prolific Western author Edward Abbey: "For Ed, With all best wishes, Your friend Cormac." Accompanied by a letter of provenance from Abbey's widow. McCarthy rarely inscribed copies of his books, and his personal association to Abbey makes this rare book even more exceptional. Prior to Blood Meridian, McCarthy had modest success subsidizing his writing with grants but had yet to sell more than 5,000 of any single title. Abbey, meanwhile, was known as one of the most prolific… Read more

Description:
New York: Random House, 1965. First edition of the author's rare first book. Octavo, original half cloth. Signed by Cormac McCarthy on the title page in a contemporary hand. Near fine in a near fine dust jacket with some light wear to the extremities. Jacket design by Muriel Nasser. Books signed by McCarthy are uncommon, especially his earlier novels. Housed in a custom half morocco clamshell box. The novels of Cormac McCarthy owe much to William Faulkner, especially in their "use of dialect and concrete sense of the world— a debt McCarthy does not dispute. ‘The ugly fact is books are made out of books,’ he says. ‘The novel depends for its life on the novels that have been written.' "Cormac McCarthy is expert in generating an emotional climate, in suggesting instead of in stating, in creating a long succession of brief, dramatic scenes described with flashing visual impact" (The New York Times).

Description:
New York: Random House, 1979. First edition of the author's fourth novel and what many consider to be his finest. Octavo, original half cloth. Signed by Cormac McCarthy on the half-title page. Fine in a near fine dust jacket with a miniscule closed tear. Jacket design by Jack Ribik. Housed in a custom half morocco clamshell box. An exceptional example. Suttree is the fourth of McCarthy's novels to be published, but he had started it well before his first, The Orchard Keeper, appeared in 1965 to great critical acclaim. The principle scene of Suttree is Knoxville, Tennessee in the early 1950's. The central figure, Cornelius Suttree, is a fisherman who lives in a dilapidated houseboat on the river. Estranged from his prominent family, he has withdrawn from the society they represent, choosing instead a different world inhabited by people who live precarious, desperate, often violent lives. "McCarthy is a writer to he read, to be admired, and quite honestly- envied" (Ralph Ellison).

Description:
New York: Random House, 1985. First edition of the author's fifth novel. Octavo, original half red cloth. Signed by Cormac McCarthy on the half-title page in a contemporary hand. Fine in a near fine dust jacket with a touch of shelfwear. Jacket design by Richard Adelson. Jacket painting by Salvador Dali. Housed in a custom half morocco clamshell box. "Blood Meridian seems to me the authentic American apocalyptic novel, more relevant even in 2000 than it was fifteen years ago. The fulfilled renown of Moby-Dick and of As I Lay Dying is augmented by Blood Meridian, since Cormac McCarthy is the worthy disciple both of Melville and of Faulkner. I venture that no other living American novelist, not even Pynchon, has given us a book as strong and memorable as Blood Meridian" (Harold Bloom). McCarthy can only be compared with our greatest writers, with Melville and Faulkner, and this is his masterpiece" (Michael Herr).

Description:
New York: Random House, 1973. First edition of the author's second novel. Octavo, original half cloth. Presentation copy, inscribed by the author on the half-title page, "For Jimmy and Chris From El Paso Texas September 18, 1990 From your friend Cormac." Additionally signed in full by Cormac McCarthy below. The recipients were close friends of McCarthy. Fine in a near fine price-clipped dust jacket. Jacket design by Muriel Nasser. A nice association. In this taut, chilling novel, Lester Ballard--a violent, dispossessed man falsely accused of rape--haunts the hill country of East Tennessee when he is released from jail. While telling his story, Cormac McCarthy depicts the most sordid aspects of life with dignity, humor, and characteristic lyrical brilliance. Basis for the 2013 film bearing the same name, starring James Franco.

Description:
New York: Random House, 1968. First edition of the author's second novel. Octavo, original half cloth. Presentation copy, inscribed on the half-title page in a contemporary hand, "For John Markham With Best Wishes Cormac McCarthy." Fine in a fine dust jacket. Jacket design by Muriel Nasser. A superior example. Outer Dark is a novel at once mythic and starkly evocative, set in an unspecified place in Appalachia sometime around the turn of the century. A woman bears her brother's child, a boy; the brother leaves the baby in the woods and tells her he died of natural causes. Discovering her brother's lie, she sets forth alone to find her son. Both brother and sister wander separately through a countryside being scourged by three terrifying and elusive strangers, headlong toward an eerie, apocalyptic resolution. "A profound parable that ultimately speaks to any society in any time" (Time).
