Good +. Birds of Paradise, an oil painting by Maurice Sterne, the first person to have a retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. His exhibition of 174 paintings, drawings and sculptures opened at MOMA in February, 1933 and was accompanied by a catalog with an extensive essay by H.M. Kallen. This oil painting on board measuring 26" wide by 34" was offered at a Christie's Sale in 1990 but then withdrawn. Sterne was a Russian / Jewish immigrant who came to the United States and New York.
