Untrimmed, slightly frayed edges. Pages tanned. Occasional ink marginalia and notation sign "^". Some spotting and foxing, but text easily readable. No copy appears to have come to auction since 1927. Worldcat finds but two copies in libraries worldwide. (Sabin, 17299). Concerns the protracted land dispute between Pennsylvania and Connecticut over the Western Reserve Territory, land now known as Ohio. Includes a history of the disputes, which stretched back to 1662 when King Charles II granted the land to both colonies. Sporadic physical and bureaucratic warfare ensued until 1800, when the land was ceded to Pennsylvania. The author, Tench Coxe, serving as the Secretary of the Land-Office for Pennsylvania included relevant documents. (Wikipedia).

Title-page browned with light damp-stains in upper and lower left-hand corners, seeped through first 5 leaves. Leaves 2-3 fully detached. Pages lightly tanned throughout with sharp print on clean paper. (Sabin 42455). This pamphlet by a "Yankee farmer" was penned by John Lowell, a notable member of the Federalist Party. The Chesapeake Affair of 1807 was a naval skirmish between the British warship HMS Leopard and the American frigate USS Chesapeake. The British ship launched an attack against and boarded the Chesapeake, allegedly in search of British deserters. The affair fanned the flames of British-American tensions and eventually led to President Thomas Jefferson's Embargo of 1807. Both the Chesapeake Affair and the Embargo are viewed as precipitating events to the War of 1812. (Wikipedia).

(Poore). This one page resolution awarded Captain Lewis Warrington (1782-1851) a Congressional Gold Medal and a Silver Medal "with suitable emblems and devices" for his victory over the British ship Epervier during the War of 1812.

Concerning a reimbursement of money advanced to assist in the re-enlistment of troops. Resolved that the petitioner's request be denied. General St. Clair died in poverty in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, on August 31, 1818 at the age of 81. During the American Revolutionary War, he rose to the rank of major general in the Continental Army, but lost his command after a controversial retreat from Fort Ticonderoga. St. Clair served as President of the Continental Congress, which during his term passed the Northwest Ordinance. Thomas Barnard, Jr. (1748-1814) assumed the position of head minister of the First Church in Salem in 1770 following his father, Reverend Thomas Barnard's, sudden paralysis. The church split into two over disputes about leadership. Barnard Jr. and his followers formed the North Church in Salem. (Congregational Library and Archives) The present sermon offers a window into the sentiments, fears, and swelling patriotism felt by congregants belonging to the New Republic.r.
