Edges neatly trimmed. Octavo, 7 1/2" x 4 3/4" pp. [2], 38. Small ink inscription "x" on top left corner. Pages lightly tanned. (ESTC T188803). The prominent politician and Christian apologist John Shute, Viscount Barrington (1678-1734) wrote this pamphlet amidst the Salters' Hall debates in London. In 1719, 150 dissenting ministers convened at the Salters' Hall to debate subscription to the Trinity. Originally they had convened to "heal the doctrinal differences that had. arisenamong the leading ministers there", but the dispute widened and "the debate came to be seen as a controversy over orthodoxy..." and their subscribing to the doctrine of The Trinity. In this pamphlet, Barrington provides an account of the heated debates and advocates for peace. (Paraphrased, ODNB).

Very tightly bound. Brown endpapers, front and rear, each contain previous owner's name. 6 1/2 inches x 4 1/2 inches. Three black and white illustrations including what is listed as "illuminated title". Frontis illustrations features a bonneted Mom reading to her three toddlers. A banner atop the illustration says "Chitchat and Budget" and atop this illustration, a child angel, with wings extended. At the bottom reads: "How Beautiful is Love" One offering in the "Library for Little Lasses and Lads". The succeeding volume to be called "Archie and Nep", Nep being the large dog who appears in one of the illustrations in Archie and His Sisters, p. 33.

Micaiah Towgood (1700-1792) was a dissenting minister in Exeter. In this pamphlet, he summarizes the arguments he made in Letters to [John] White, his most known publication. The arguments made therein represent classic nonconformist views. (Wikipedia).

A little age-tanned and lightly spotted in a few places, but overall, clean copy internally. Priestley, best known for his work on Chemistry, was the renaissance man and wrote knowledgably on everything. Inscription to front cover: "To ________, with sincere regards from the Author". 32 pp. No rear cover. Sunning to front, which is partially detached from string. The Rev. Daniel Dana (July 24, 1771 - August 26, 1859) was a minister in Newburyport, Massachusetts, and served as fourth president of Dartmouth College from 1820 to 1821. He graduated from Dartmouth in the class of 1788.

Hartford, Connecticut: Elisha Babcock, 1798. Third edition. Pamphlet. Good. 12mo., 6.3 in. x 4.4 in., pp. 59. Stitched paper covers. Rubbing to extremities. Several closed tears to fore-edges and pages 51-60. Creases and thumbing to bottom right corner. Hand-stitched thread repair to two inch closed tear on rear board. Previous owner's signature to front free endpaper, dated 1865. While worn, all text is clearly legible. Further accounts by Lord, dated June 20, 1752, and Dec. 6, 1771; pp. 49-51 "Redemption," p. 52-56; "The three warnings," pp. 56-59, in verse Mercy Wheeler (1718-1819) was confined to her bed from the age of eight to twenty-five after a childhood malarial fever. The Lutheran Hymnal consists of 644 hymns, 16 spiritual songs, and besides those included in the orders of matins and vespers, 8 canticles and chants. This scarce companion volume, in Part I, offers notes on the hymns. Part II is the Biographical and Historical Notes on the Authors and Composers, and a bibliography. Part III begins a reference section with the Table of Hymns for Feasts, Festivals, and Sundays of the Church-Year, First Lines of Original Hymns, First Lines of Stanzas, Alphabetical Index of Tunes, authors, composers, and translators. Also included is a Metrical Index of Tunes. Just a hint of shelf-rubbing to edges and corners, and really, hardly noticeable. Previous owner's name and date to front free pastedown endpaper and no other markings at all.

While paper covers partially worn away to front of paper covers and a goodly portion of spine, yet holding together quite solidly. 124 pp. followed by a last leaf upon which appears a request for legacy bequeathments. Several brief marginal notations in manuscript as well as tick-mark placeholders. Text block is generally bright, with no spotting. The sermon itself seems dedicated to the righteous mission of the Church of England to move out amongst the Heathen nations and bring the word of Christ to the uninformed and primitive. Unmarked interior. William Cobbett (1763 - 1835) was an English radical pamphleteer, journalist, politician, and farmer born in Farnham, Surrey. He was one of an agrarian faction seeking to reform Parliament, abolish "rotten boroughs", restrain foreign activity, and raise wages, with the goal of easing poverty among farm labourers and small land holders.

Worldcat lists nine copies of this edition in libraries worldwide. And we were unable to locate auction records for the sale of any edition of this book, beyond 1932. Thomas Doolittle was an English nonconformist minister, tutor and author.
