Description:
Oak Park, Illinois: Frank Lloyd Wright Newsletter, 1983. A Very Good Copy. 1ALS from noted architect, Tom Heinz and Frank Lloyd Wright scholar to David Wright (FLW's son) "thanks very much for all your time and a nice lunch at your club. Here's a copy of the sale catalogue for the drawings. I saw Evie in Los Angeles. looked great. I didn't get a chance to see the Grigor movie. I saw another by the BBC. It was very bad. Thanks again" Tom Heinz. The drawings auction catalog included here was an early attempt among many to save Taliesin from its financial problems. The catalogue alone is a valuable resource for Wright material.

Description:
New York; (1935): The Studio Ltd. First Edition. Small Quarto. 124 pages. illustrated in black and white. In this major work Le Corbusiner declared that avant-garde architecture should be identified with technological progress, and of course, flying had become a symbol of that progress. In an earlier work Towards Architecture (1923) he wrote: The house, understood as a machine, must be a useful object, manufactured by assembling industrialised parts in the same way as a car, an aeroplane or a ship. His concern was for beauty along with technology; especially, the remarkable advances of aircraft. Printed in a small print run, this has become another of Le Corbusiner's major works on art, architecture and a technological world where economic proress may move ahead of the potential of artistic development. Bound in blue cloth lettered and decorated in black , spine lettering black, spine faded, some wear to corners and spine ends.

Description:
Chicago; (2003): University of Chicago Press. First Edition. Quarto. xxxi, 443 pages, profusely illustrated (many in color). The famed linen cloth preserved in Turin Cathedral has provoked pious devotion, scientific scrutiny, and morbid curiosity. Imprinted with an image many faithful have traditionally believed to be that of the crucified Christ "painted in his own blood," the Shroud remains an object of intense debate and notoriety yet today. In this amply illustrated volume, John Beldon Scott traces the history of the unique relic, focusing especially on the black-marble and gilt-bronze structure Guarino Guarini designed to house and exhibit it. A key Baroque monument, the chapel comprises many unusual architectural features, which Scott identifies and explains, particularly how the chapel's unprecedented geometry and bizarre imagery convey to the viewer the supernatural powers of the object enshrined there. Drawing on early plans and documents, he demonstrates how the architect's design mirrors… Read More

Description:
London; (1926): J. Lane. First Edition. Quarto. 249 pages, index. 25 paintings in color, 22 in black and white. His master from the age of the Pre-Raphaelites to Pop Art showed his early mastery of truth in art. He did not object to new phases in art history as long as the artists knew history and could work within the medium to purpose rather than the public's acclaim. The relation to motifs in Blake, Turner and Persian ceramics to ideas in the work of Ciurlionis are considered remarkable in the views of art historians. Bound in green cloth lettered in blind, spine lettering gilt, soiling to cloth, spine a bit faded. A very good copy.

Description:
New York: William Edwin Rudge, 1931. First Edition. Small Quarto. 135pp. with a foreword by Charles S. Whitney, illustrated with photographic images throughout. Timber bridges were built on a scale never attempted in any other country, some of them over a mile in length. The earlier bridges in America were of the type popular in Switzerland in the eighteenth century. Bridges played a huge part in the early development of the American continent. The abundance of timber and the ingenuity of the American bridge builder, the construction of bridges across the many rivers would have been impossible when bridges were so much needed to carry the highways and railways into parts of undeveloped parts of the country. These bridges were sturdy structures and have and have stood the test of time. Bound in maroon cloth, spine lettered in gilt. A very good copy in pictorial dust jacket with some chipping along the upper edges and spine ends.
