New York: Dodd, Mead and Company, 1924. Reprint. 257 pp. One fold out map, some light pencil markings not affectcing text. In pencil on frontpapers "If lost - plesae return to James Horan 210 South St. NYC - reward". Hawes C-103. Original edition 1831.

Portland, Maine: Charles Day & Company, 1836. Octavo. 36p a scarce item withdrawn from Long Island Historical Society. Josaih Pierce was a state senator and judge who gave this address on the town's centennial (while it was founded in 1736, its history goes back as he points out to the time of King Phillip's War). He recounts early events to the "fifth Indian war" and he points to the early formal protests made (1768) that were made regarding the restrictions of liberty by the British government The carefully reasoned protests are printed here in full (and it is amazing to us today that the address was over one hours in length). One of every three men in the town joined the American Revolution. Amazing details of how the town paid for the original soldiers 100 dollars to enlist and additional money to support the families in the absence of those who served. A scarce item in original paper bound into boards. Light foxing.

Albany, NY: Weed-Parsons, 1894. 12mo. 200p. An unusually bright, clean copy of a scarce book with a bright picture of the large building of the building of the Society of California Pioneers. HIs first-hand accounts present a colorful picture of early San Francisco and its characters. Along the waterfront, his purchase of property in North Beach which he said sold since it had no future, the insane gambling where fortunes in bags of gold were lost in minutes, and the characters who wandered the streets (perhaps unchanged today). Illustrations throughout. Cowan 330; Kurutz 381.

Nicely illustrated with Helene Hanff's first hand account of the New York she had devoted followed all her life while writing books. In the process of writing this book she shows some little known areas that were only found by a diligent search to find out what she had previously missed.Bound in rust cloth, spine lettering gilt, previous owner's name, two corners lightly bumped. A very good copy in unclipped very good pictorial dust jacket with very light wear to spine ends and light finger soiling.

A very good set with some light scratches, vol. 2 has some inked numbers on the front fly leaf, Volume 3 has a wrinkle to spine, otherwise a very good set. Bound in the original uniform green cloth. Bookplate from the William H. Guthman collection with his bookplate in each volume.

Providence, R.I.: National Biographical Publishing, 1881. First Edition. Thick Quarto. 589p. illustrated with exceptionally nice and bold full page steel engravings of these men with most tissue guards present. This copy belong H (Harry) T. Beckwith author of the History of Rhode Island whose father, Truman Beckwith 1783-1878, is featured in the volume. He was a major businessman, banking, building, cotton and more. A gift given to the Long Island Historical Society to the Cary fund by Mrs. Cary in memory of her husband. An exceptionally heavy book bound in very sturdy green buckram, spine and all edges gilt., floral endpapers. A very nice clean, bright copy. (weighs 9 pounds).

(PA. 2006): The Westmorelanduseum of America Art. First Edition. Quarto. 160pp. This is the first book on the Westmoreland Museum of American art's extensive collection of paintings, water-colors, drawings, prints and photographs of the Big Steel Era in Pittsburgh and Southwestern Pennsylvania. It is a story of a shared past and future forged from steel, seen through the eyes of artists, and represented here with 141 works of art, 51 are in color and 141 in black and white. A fine bright copy in a fine bright pictorial dust jacket.

Providence: R.L. Freeman, 1924. Octavo. 29p. map, An important contribution on early South County history. On this plat, which was made in 1675, the Bonnet is designated as "Scotts Bonnet" or as Miller explains "because of its imagined likeness to a Glengarry." Blind stamp from the now defunct Long Island Historical Society. The original pastedown label is present. Bound in red paper covered boards lettered in black, printed paper spine labels. A very good copy with some darkening to board edges minor wear to corners and edges.

Profusely illustrated with old photographs, facsimile of ledgers and broadsides, drawings, and personal papers. Briefly inscribed and dated on title page by the author.

Concord, N.H.: Published By the Town, 1887. Octavo. 328 pages, index. Map on p. 298. The town was excited since their history involved major contributions in New England in its newspapers, medicine and law, and its part in those who served in the Civil War. Aticles here were on the "The Pioneers of Littleton", "The Women of Littleton" and much on its early manufactures and growth. This book was part of the now defunct Long Island Historical Library with their embossed stamp. Bound in brown cloth decorated in blind, spine gilt but fading, wear to spine ends.

The rare dust jacket is intact, with 3" chipping along upper panel, 1/2" chipping at toe, and small chips at edges; front panel bright, and spine slightly sunned, and rear panel is soiled and yellowed. All together a clean and tight copy, in clear jacket protecter.

Octavo. 342pp., inscribed by the author and with a note signed by the author laid in. color folding frontispiece of Kansas City, Portraits of famous people and famous places in Kansas City including many important businesses. A history that took the author 9 years to compile. Bound in green cloth lettered and stamped in gilt, spine lettering gilt. A near fine copy in near fine dust jacket with minor shelf wear.

Keene: B. Cooke, 1848. Original Wraps Bound in Boards. Good. 24mo - over 5" - 5¾" tall. 13p. with three pages of list of members of the church. Blindstamp of Long Island Historical Society. Inscribed by Rev. Leonard Tenney to a name we could not identify (who is listed as one of the pastors in the membership list in the back of the book). No copies in OCLC, Very rare lists 180 members, two pastors and the deacons. Perhaps the earliest item printed regarding Jaffrey, New Hampshire. During this period of the 1840's frequent visitors to the town were Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau who scaled Mount Monadnock (as did Rudyard Kipling later).
