Victoria, 1898. Very good condition. An indenture for 4 allotments in the township of Keilor, which is now a suburb of Melbourne just west of Tullamarine. The township was a noted camping place for people and bullock teams to and from the gold diggings at Castlemaine, Ballarat and Bendigo. Keilor Post Office opened on 2 March 1854 and a general store, blacksmith, hotel, police station, courthouse and bridge were all built during this time. The indenture is between Donald McDonald of Derriliquin and 3 parties: John Harris of Essendon, Donald Alexander McDonald of South Yarra, and Emma Jane Watt, widow, and concerns 3 Crown grants all dated 1854. Paris, 1930. Postcard. An art deco inspired postcard for the first international exposition of airmail, aviation and art. No. 6992, with a blue 1f 50c Post Aerienne stamp canceled four times. The red plane design includes the names of early aviators - Lindbergh, Byrd, Coste, Hawker, Mermoz and Ross Smith. Smith, of the South Australian outback, and W.W.I veteran, made the awe-inspiring flight from England to Australia in 1919. Mailed to Monsieur S. Abudarham in Tanger Marocco, where it is canceled again. 4 x 5 1/4", printed in orange, blue, red and black on cream cardstock. Some light dusting, overall in very good condition.

1900. Very good condition. Original chromolithographic illustration of infantry from the Australian state of Victoria. Showing an infantryman in red coat, gray trousers and spiked helmet marching with rifle over shoulder. In the background is a soldier on horseback, with a bugler standing next to him. Matted. 8 x 10". In 1883, after Sir Frederick Sargood had been appointed Victoria's first Minister of Defense, the volunteer system of recruiting used to that point was replaced by a part time paid militia system. The 1st Battalion, which had formed in 1854, carried on, changing its name over time; today it is part of the 4th Brigade, 2nd Division which has earned battle honors in the Boer War, World War I and World War II.

1887. Very good overall. A manuscript letter along with an unrecorded handbill of Henry C. Dane. Major Henry Dane was a Civil War veteran who made his way to Australia and New Zealand in 1887 as a lecturer. He began as a wheelwright, then enlisted at age 29 in Cambridge, 4 Oct., 1862, and mustered in as 1st Lieutenant. He received a commission as Captain of Co. "F", Third Massachusetts Calvary Regiment. He was promoted to Brevet Major 13 March, 1865. He resigned his post 15 May, 1865, and became an attorney at law practicing in the District of Columbia. In 1873 he is listed as a partner of Dane & Baker in Boston, MA. In 1880-81 he traveled to Chicago lecturing. He became a resident of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia in 1875 and reviews of his lectures appear in Sydney Morning Herald and National Library Newspaper in 1887,1888, 1891.
