Description:
Venezia: Novelle del. Ap. Antonio Zatta e Figli, 1790. First Italian printing. Large copper engraving depicting the arrival of Cook in Tahiti, probably intended to show his first voyage there. The British vessel is at the left, and Cook and other British sailors are at the center, having just stepped ashore. A chieftain and local men, women and children are at the right, welcoming the British by waving palm fronds in the air. This view of Cook's arrival is unique, different from all the views published at the time. The title in Italian and French below the image. The engraving lightly toned. Image size 14 3/4 x 12 3/4", laid down on early paper, 19 1/2 x 15 3/4". National Library of New Zealand, Reference Number: C-036-006.

Description:
London: C. Buckton and sold by P. Elmsly, 1788. ARGUABLY ONE OF THE RAREST PUBLICATIONS ON COOK'S FIRST VOYAGE. This is the first scientific publication relating to Captain Cook's first voyage on HMS Endeavour (1768-1771) to the Pacific. Officially it was to observe the transit of Venus in the South Pacific but secretly it was to search for the mythical Southern Continent. In the process Cook became the first European to set foot on New Zealand and the east coast of New Holland or Australia. Of all the works associated with the First Voyage, this is one of the rarest. Only two examples of this work are recorded at auction on Rare Book Hub since 1985. It was not in the Parks collection, arguably one of the finest in living memory on the works of Cook. It was also not in the libraries of Davidson or Parson's. It includes two large charts representing the east coast of Australia and New Zealand, much improved from those published in John Hawkesworth's official account of the first voyage. William…

London: Strahan & Cadell, 1773. Copper engraving , folded, printed on watermarked paper . Impression size 12 ins x 14 ins. The work of John Frederick Miller (fl.1759-1794), the artist was employed by Joseph Banks to make drawings of some of the specimens collected on Cook's first voyage to the Pacific in the Endeavour. Description:
London: J. K. Sherwin, 1784. A fine, crisp impression. A fine copy of the second issue of Cook's famous portrait after Nathaniel Dance, beautifully engraved by J. K. Sherwin. This impression was published in London 1st August 1784, (the 1st was published April 20th 1779). This portrait was issued in 1784, at a time when portraits of Cook were in tremendous demand. Crisp dark three-quarter image of Cook seated with a map of the Southern Ocean on his knee, resting against the table, with "New Holland" barely legible on the map. This famous portrait of Cook was painted by Dance in May 1776, prior to Cook's departure on his 3rd & final voyage. The artist was one of the leading portrait painters of the day. It was said by David Samwell (1751-98) fellow voyager with Cook and ship's surgeon on the Discovery, that "It ... is a most excellent Likeness to Capt. Cook; and more to be valued, as it is the only one I have seen that bears any resemblance to him." Most of the busts and statues that were executed…
