An autobiography in which the author describes his childhood home in Brisbane, the Tuscan village he resides in for part of the year, a visit to India, and a wartime train journey from Brisbane to Sydney. A description of the work printed at the front free end paper. 8vo, 134pp. Patterned maroon paper wrappers, interlocked cupids.

London, 1895. Ephemera. Otherwise very good condition. Gosse [1849 - 1928] was an English poet, author and critic, and a contemporary of Tennyson, Browning, Thomas Hardy and Henry James. Addressed to "Forman" the letter discusses his copy of "Amasia" and the fact that he is recovering from bronchitis. "Amasia or The Works of the Muses A Collection of Poems" is the book referred to in the letter and was written by John Hopkins and published in London in 3 volume by Tho. Warren for Bennet Banbury in 1700. 8 3/4 x 7" folded in half, with letterhead address in red, "29, Delamere Terrace. Westbourne Square. W." ALS in pen, original folds, dusty.

Page 21 line 26 corrected to "Papadopoli". The dust jacket slt rubbed at edges, now in protective mylar.

Sml 8vo, 264pp. Gray cloth covers with title in black at front cover and spine. Covers slt dusty, spine darkened. Internally, slt toning at early pages, o/w very good.

Philadelphia: David McKay Company, 1929. The story of Ameliaranne who longed for a doll in a toy shop window, and how she was able to acquire her despite the cost, "Half a crown - that's 30 pennies!" With an inscription by a previous owner, "A Merry Christmas to Barbara from George,'" dated 1934. Eleanor Farjeon [1881 - 1965] was an English author of children's stories and plays, poetry, biography, history and satire. She won many literary awards and the Eleanor Farjeon Award for children's literature is presented annually in her memory by the Children's Book Circle, a society of publishers.( wikipedia dot com) Small 8vo, red cloth covers, color title label on front, black title on spine, unpaginated, approx. 64pp, color illustrations on end papers, frontis and every other page. Decorative pale blue boards with black and white illustration on front cover, with title in black in center of illustration. No title on dark green cloth spine. Covers are sunned, with toned strip at top and right hand edges of front cover and along top one half inch of back cover. Boards slightly rubbed at edges. Internally, inscription dated 1933 on ffep, pages evenly toned. Printed by William Rudge, it includes a facsimile of Dickens letter to his friend Dr. Elisha Bartlett.

The first English language edition rendered the title as 'The Arabian Nights' Entertainment', otherwise known as 'One Thousand and One Nights', the collection of folk tales compiled in Arabic during the Islamic Golden Age from the 8th to the 14th century. Sympathetically rebacked, calf binding with gilt detailing. Sections of 4 spines chipped away. Internally, the pages are bright & clean. 8vo, each volume with engraved frontispiece. All edges gilt. Spine is sunned and gilt of title has faded; spine rubbed at top and base; lower edges and corners lightly rubbed. Internally, pages lightly but evenly toned.

Wilmington, NC: The Herald of the Union, 1865. Newspaper. Good + overall. I am a detective in the Victoria police, and have been one for some years; I was formerly one in Paris and I was employed as such in the Hyde Park Exhibition of 1851..." he goes on, saying he has settled in Australia. This detective fiction occupies a half page, and presents itself under the guise of a police memoir. Entitled "Detective's Story, " it recounts how Policeman Vinton brought a double murderer to justice: "... my evidence hung Stevens, who... confessed not only to this murder, but the murder of a mate in the bush some years back with whom he was working on a station, making a stake and rail fence."
