Edinburgh: David Douglas, 1902. Second Printing. Hardcover. Very good condition. Moore (1841-1887) (known generally as A. W. Moore) was a British civil servant and mountaineer and member of The Alpine Club. This is the second edition, printed after a rare private printing from 1867. Presented to Ursula Corning by her father. Ursula Corning was a noted mountain climber (Matterhorn) & skier and member of The Alpine Club in London. She worked for the OSS, a predecessor to the CIA, during World War II. Large 8vo, xxxv (list of 21 plates and 10 maps), 444pp, index [6]. Green cloth covers, gilt text on spine, foredge uncut. Spine sunned, rubbed at corners, interior clean and bright, binding tight. OCLC: 7094157.

London: Hodder & Stoughton, 1953. Proof. A proof copy of an account of the first successful ascent of Everest by Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay. Brown kraft paper wrappers marked "Not Final Copy Set from Collected Galleys NB", with a stamp on the brown paper wrapper to be returned to Curtis Brown, publishers in New York. 8vo, 284pp, with a new set pf pages 283 - 290 loosely inserted at the back. A couple of penciled notations - on "Illustrations in Colour", a note that says '16 pp probably' and '48pp probably' on "Photographs". All page numbes are shown as zeros. Loosely inserted is a typescript of the forward by H.R.H., with 'The Duke of Edinburgh' struck out. Wrappers a little browned and a light crease through first couple pageso/w very good.

London: Edward Arnold, 1896. First edition. Hardcover. Very good overall. Freshfield [1845-1934] was a British lawyer, author and a keen traveler and mountaineer. He edited the Alpine Journal from 1872 to 1880, was an active member of the Royal Geographical Society and the Alpine Club and served as President of both. He teamed with Italian photographer Vittorio Sella for this work. Freshfield was the first foreigner to reach the Eastern Summit on Elbrus; he led an exploration of the Caucasus and was the first man, officially, to conquer Kazbek with guides from the village Gergeti. Freshfield also became the first mountaineer to examine the western face of Kangchenjunga, which rises from the Kangchenjunga Glacier.
