Broadside printed at the end of the war to commemorate General de Gaulle's call to action of all Frenchmen to remain united in the struggle to save France after the German invasion of Holland, Belgium, Luxembourg and France, first published in July 1940. Np [United States?], 1945. Very good overall. ADSEC was the Advance Section, Communications Zone, European Theater of Operations in W.W.I.I. This large broadside seems to be designed as a summary for soldiers who served, the text on one side detailing the planning and a pictorial map showing a trail from London to Bristol, Catz, Le Mans, Etampes, Paris, Rheims, Namur, Liege, Bonn from 4 March 1944 to 17 April 1945 with illustrated representations of each location. The text describes the Planning period, Invasion, Breakthrough, Battle of the Bulge, Conquest of Germany, and Finale. W.W.II Allied route maps were created by both American and British forces during and after the war. 1993. Assorted ephemeral items from the family life and military career of Richard C. Broward (b. 1899). Broward joined the army in 1918 and served until retirement in 1950. His career saw him at army bases in North Carolina, Alabama, Michigan and Texas and travel around the world. In 1951 he worked at Texas Aviation Industries in USAF Contract Primary Flying School. A 1993 VA notice has him living in Tulsa, OK. Items include many letters of recommendation from superior officers and recommendations for promotion, some laminated. (4) 8x10" stills of Broward at various points in his career, plus a retired shot. (1) 6 3/8 x 8 1/2" photo as a new cadet. Family shots (7) size 5 x 3" with farm equipment. Very good condition. Link was born in 1903 in Germany. After the family emigrated, he enlisted in the US Army at 18 1/2 y.o. (farmer) and retired in 1952 with 30 + years service. He spent time in Italy, Korea, Philippines (Manila), Japan (Okinawa). Collection contains multiples of his honorable discharge and reenlistment papers, a photo of Max in 1944 in honor of his 41st birthday; a handwritten letter to Max Jr. dated 1944 from Italy "in the Spaghetti Boot." 4pp letter 5 1/4 x 6 3/4" with envelope; vaccination record; 10 (8 3/4 x 7 1/2") b&w photos of the Mt. Vesuvius eruption that took place March 17-23, 1944, and 4 b&w photos of Naples castle and shrine; 12pp typed diary in 2 sections, the first describing 'leaving for WAR' on Aug. 9 1943 landing in Oran, then on to Italy. The second section entitled 'Soldier's travel's' gives the same story with his personal impressions.

Australian Red Cross Society, 1942. Otherwise very good condition. Two-page circular on thin, salmon colored paper. The circular lists 10 directions for sending letters, including one-page only and of a strictly personal character, typed or clearly written. "... any person may send a letter to a prisoner of war In Japanese hands, but in view of difficulties of transmission it is urged that, until information is received from the Japanese as to prisoners of war and their places of internment, letters should be sent only once a month, and by close relatives only." The Central Red Cross Bureau, based in Melbourne, was the go through organization for such mail. Letters could be posted (the sheet gives instructions on how to address such a letter) at any post office and they would be forwarded post free by ordinary mail without stamps. Signed presentation copy, with humorous inscription signed Eric Purdon, and dated June 14, 1947: "this day the twelve (sic) anniversary of a highly important historical occasion, differs remarkably from the scene of this book, whose title, if it were an account of the celebration based on the anniversary, would be "Bottle Report". London: Elek, 1953. 3rd Impression. Hardcover. Presentation copy to Sir Basil Embry, Battle of Britain Air Chief Marshal, and signed "Respectfully, Richard Pape, Sept. '53". A gripping WWII account of Pape's being shot down over Germany and his subsequent escape across Europe, signed and dedicated to another highly decorated WWII hero and survivor. Sir Basil Edward Embry (1902 - 1977) was the Commander-in-Chief of Fighter Command from 1949 to 1953. He too was shot down over Germany, captured by the German army, escaped and evaded recapture for two months in occupied France, before getting home to England via Spain and Gibraltar. 8vo, 309pp, maps. Red gilt cloth, in the original color illustrated dust jacket. Cloth a bit rubbed at spine ends. Dust jacket rubbed, top of dj spine missing, dusty at rear panel. Internally, very good condition.

Card companies include: Rust Craft, American Greetings, Hallmark, Forget-Me-Not, Quality, Marchant, S'Prise Series (Gibbon), J.P. Some cards have mechanical elements, or pop-up, or 3D decoration (ribbon, pin, beading, foil, stuffing). Several have hand written letters on inner pages. References to Harlan Dale Farm (Ravenna, OH), Art Trumbull, Edith and Kit Matadurff, Minnie Burk, Stella Holmes, etc. One must have included a money gift for Christmas,and another with a care package, with a list of people from the community and what they sent (cartons of cigarettes, money, comb, shaving kit etc.) A collection of World War II era cards sent to their loved ones.
