A very presentable copy, in its light-green cloth, with bright gilt-design and titling along the front panel and spine. Light spotting to the rear panel, mild darkening along the front panel's fore-edge, light wear to the rear inner hinge. Internally, very clean, with no writing or markings to speak of. Folio, top-edge gilt, lovely pictorial pastedowns and endpapers. 262 illustrations (mostly crisp black-and-white photos) plus dozens and dozens of sketches and details. One of the great turn-of-the-century studies of "garden making"

All 3 volumes tight and VG+ or better in their oatmeal cloth, with decorative blindstamping and crisp, unflecked lettering at the front panels and spines. Tall quartos, detailed black-and-white photography thruout charting the growth and development of the Japanese garden up thru the eras. This set has the bookplate in each volume --and came from library of-- Mary Griggs Burke, the late 20th/early 21st century American collector who had amassed the largest private collection of Japanese art ourside of Japan.

Clean and VG in its decorative pictorial boards, with very light fraying along the spine and at the spine ends. Light, inoffensive foxing as well to the endsheets and at the edges. Quarto, limited to 1,000 copies. 3 color woodcuts by S.E. Vigil Monteverde.

Text in French, German and English. 207 flowers profiled in rich color, 10 in black-and-white. Octavo, Near Fine in its wonderful scenic pictorial cloth--and in a handsome, VG+ example of the original dustjacket.

London: Whittaker and Co, 1853. Half-Leather. Collectible; Very Good. A lovely example of the 1853 edition, the 21st volume of the "Floricultural Cabinet". Bound in half-leather over marbled boards. Raised bands, bright gilt-lettering along spine. A tight, VG copy, with a degree of wear at the outer hinges (which are still perfectly sturdy). The 16 full, hand-colored plates, which steal the show, are vivid and magnificent. All bright and clean and very striking. Octavo, all 12 issues of 1853 bound-in plus the first 4 issues of 1854.

New York: The Ronald Press Company, 1949. Cloth. Near Fine. A handsome copy of the 1949 1st edition. Tight and VG+ to Near Fine in its dark-green cloth, with bright gilt-titling along the front panel and spine. Tasteful former owner bookplate at the front pastedown, otherwise clean as could be. And in a bright, VG example of the publisher's printed light-green slipcase (and chemise), with mild wear at the spine crown and along the bottom-edges. Tall quarto, first-rate plates throughout, many of them in rich gravure.

Clean and VG+ in its deep-red over russet cloth, with bright gilt-insignia and titling along the front panel and spine respectively. Very light bowing to the front board, mild bumping at the lower tips, a bit of light creasing along a number of the page edges. Elephant folio, internally very clean, with no writing or markings to speak of. THIS COPY INCLUDES A BRIGHT EXAMPLE OF ITS UNCOMMON PICTORIAL DUSTJACKET. The jacket shows chipping and creasing along its edges, and 2" of loss at the spine crown (affecting the titling). Still though, the jacket has protected the book very well and makes for an unusual, significant addition.

Both volumes solid and VG to VG+ in their duotone cloth (dark and light-green), with bright gilt-titling to the front panels and spines. Very light spotting and staining to Vol. I's front panel, very light foxing to its preliminaries. Vol. II sharp and very presentable, in a clean, bright example of the uncommon dustjacket. The dustjacket is solid and VG+, with light offsetting to the panels and just a touch of very mild chipping along the edges. Also included with Vol. II is the fragile printed slipcase, which shows wear along the edges and staining to the pasted-on paper title but is nonetheless attractive and serviceable Folios, hundreds of crisp black-and-white photos throughout. Clean and VG+ in its dark-green cloth, with blindstamped bordering and bright gilt-titling along the spine. Light wear at the front inner hinge (and just a touch to the rear inner hinge), armorial bookplate ("William Augustus Jeffries") at the front pastedown, several tiny tears at the spione crown. Thick octavo, lengthy Introduction ("Sketch of the History of Horticulture in the United States up to the Year 1829") leading up to a history of the Society.

An exceptionally well-preserved example of the 1928 1st English language edition, complete in 2 volumes and translated from its original German by Laura Archer-Hind. Both volumes tight and Near Fine in their gilt-decorated and titled navy-blue cloth. Small, very neat former owner inscription at Vol. I's front free endpaper, otherwise clean as could be. And both volumes in crisp, price-intact, VG+ to Near Fine dustjackets, with very light soiling along the panels. Thick quartos, edited by Walter P. Wright, over 600 hundred illustrations all told. Truly a collector's copy, the nicest this bookseller has seen.
