A collection of four novels, three of which are pretty much standing the test of time in American literature, and the other of which looks like a delightful read to cleanse the literary palate (that would be this movie tie-in edition of 'Peabody's Mermaid,' a story that sees a man catch a mermaid, which results in such cutting, pertinent questions as "How does his wife take it?" and "How does a captive mermaid behave?"). A couple of titles have a few condition issues, but neither pages nor words are falling out of any of them, so they all have good reads left in them -- but it wouldn't hurt to handle them with care, anyway, since being vintage paperbacks, these have already gone through a couple of wars, and would probably appreciate gentle handling during another read. A collection of four historical novels, some of which you may have heard of, others of which may be new to you, but all of which once had their day in the sun, and are looking for another brief moment in the light before the next time-travel historical sensation pushes them even further into the shadows. Or words to that effect. In the Allen title (a Dell map-back), Adverse looks to Cuba "for relief from the vague restlessness which assails him." The Bromfield story is a "turbulent novel of 1862 -- and the Yankee seizure of New Orleans." Krepps offers "A Historical Novel of Barbaric Africa in the 1820s." Two novels ("A high voltage novel of the Air Force during World War II," and "A vivid, rowdy picture of our war-time Navy") and two true stories, ("The True and Thrilling Story of 34 Days at Sea on a Rubber Raft," and "The true story of a fantastic escape from a German prison camp in World War II"). A couple are in great shape, and a couple only ok, but since none of the words have fallen out, they're all entirely readable..

The Busch title is a tie-in for thge movie of the same name, which starred Jennifer Jones, Joseph Cotten and Gregory Peck..
