Description:
Grant Richards Limited, 1918. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Used - Good. Green cloth covered spine over grey paper covered boards. Full colour title piece laid down with title, author, and illustrator in black. Colour frontispiece with tissue guard. Overall a very good copy with moderate wear to the edges of the boards and wear on the title on the spine. Pages are yellowing slightly and the binding of the block to the spine is becoming very slightly loose.Flitch's essay gives his view of the role of the war artist in The First World War and he describes Nevinson's work. The main part of the book consists of twenty-four works of art done by Nevinson. Christopher Nevinson was one of the most important artists of World War I and he was deeply affected by his experience serving with the Friends' Ambulance Unit. He also later served as an orderly with the Royal Army Medical Corps at the Third London General Hospital which specialised in treating shell shock and severe facial wounds. He died in 1946.
