Description:
Press of the Times, 1960. 1st Edition . Soft cover. As New. 23 pages. Cover 6" x 9", staple bound in pale gray card with black lettering on the cover. Three of the five parts of the essay are based on a Fulbright lecture delivered at the University of Catania, November 1957. The pamphlet was the first separately published work by Prof. Warner Berthoff, who went on to write The Example of Melville, The Ferment of Realism, Literature and the Continuances of Virtue and other books on American and world literature, during his years of teaching at Bryn Mawr College and Harvard University. The pamphlet, published by the Press of the Times in Berthoff's home town of Oberlin, Ohio, is clean and unmarked, not having been previously removed from the publisher's original packaging since publication in 1960.
