The collection of feuilletons about labor in pre-revolutionary Russia and the new Soviet country was written by Mikhail Kol'tsov (born Moisey Fridlyand; 1898-1940/2), a journalist and a prominent figure in the Soviet intellectual elite, who also served as an NKVD agent. He played a pivotal role as the founder and editor of Ogonek, Chudak, Krokodil, and Sovetskoe Fotomagazines, and was a member of the editorial board of Pravda. Kol'tsov is renowned for being Stalin's chief reporter during the Spanish Civil War. Notably, Ernest Hemingway portrayed Kol'tsov as the character Karkov in his novel "For Whom the Bell Tolls."In 1938, Kol'tsov faced arrest, and he was subsequently executed either in 1940 or 1942. His name and works were banned and removed from Soviet literature during this period.

The best Russian poets participated in this edition: Vsevolod Rozhdestvensky, Georgii Ivanov, Georgii Adamovich and Adrian Piotrovsky.The edition printed in small circulation because of lack of paper in the period of War communism and after execution of N. Gumilev was banned by soviet censorship. Later Adrian Piotrovsky was also shot and G. Ivanov and G. Adamovich emigrated from Soviet Russia.

Description:
The propaganda book about first Russian expedition to Wrangel island realized on ice-breaker Red October under Boris Davydov's command from July to October 1924. Reason for the expedition was a colony of US and Canada citizens on the island which established in 1921 and expanded in 1923. Soviet authorities had an ambition of the to restore the state sovereignty. During expedition on the island the Soviet colors were hoisted, settlers are taken out to Vladivostok. Besides, during expedition by polar explorers hydrological, geodetic and geophysical researches were conducted.
Boris Davydov (1884-1925) – Russian sea explorer, participated in Arctic hydrographic expedition on the ship Taimyr of Boris Vilkitsky. Davydov hoisted Soviet colors over Wrangel island in 1924. He died shortly after arriving to Vladivostok.
The book is rather propaganda and wrote with patriotic words, than scientific. It had to terminate the international disputes about Wrangel island.

Book reprinted in Leipzig in 1973.

Translator Nadezhda Volpin has published poems in Imaginism style. She gave birth to Sergei Yesenin's son, Alexander Esenin-Volpin. She translated novels of Walter Scott, Conan Doyle, Sinclair Lewis, Herbert Wells etc.
Foreword by Abel Startsev, literary critic and translator. He was arrested during the anti-Semitic campaign in 1948 as American spy and was imprisoned until 1955. The book with his name inside were banned, his prefaces had to be removed from survived copies.

Second edition of the translation of the novel Voyage au bout de la nuit (1932) in Russian. This edition was published eleven months later after first edition. New preface was added, the text of the translation was slightly edited. As original publication of the novel became a bestseller, Leon Trotsky wrote an article, where compared Celine with Rabelais. He invited Elsa Triolet to translate the novel into Russian language. She left Russia in 1919 and became Louis Aragon's wife. The novel was published in USSR with substantive cuts and Celine accused Elsa Triolet and Louis Aragon of distortion of the text. This association considered be one of the most radical poetry groups. The members of the group were attacked in press, then arrested and expelled from Leningrad. Since that Vvedensky started work for children. Nevertheless Vvedensky was arrested and died in prison in 1941. Most of Vvedensky's poetry was not widely known during his life-time. The book was illustrated by Ol'ga Pchel'nikova. She studied at The Russian Academy of Arts. She worked as artist in film industry. Pchel'nikova died in Leningrad during WWII. Working as a journalist, Galina Serebryakova (1905-1980), revolutionary, journalist and writer, was sent on assignments in China, Geneva and Paris in 1927-1928. She was married to a politician Leonid Serebryakov, then to a minister of finance and ambassador of USSR to the the United Kingdom Grigori Sokolnikov. He was executed during the Great Purge. Galina was arrested in 1937 and spent over twenty years in the Gulag prisons. All her books were banned in Russia and held on library special storage section till 1956.
Unusual black&white illustrations by A. Korotkin who made several other editions about China for young readers. The drawings've put on the pages without margins. Pilnyak was one of the most bestselling Russian modern authors of that times despite a lot of his text critized by authorities. This novel condemned in Pravda newspaper for sympathy to Japanese imperialism. Japanese suspected Pilniak in espionage and Soviets executed him in 1937 as a Japanese spy. Marshak].Teki Odulok (born Nikolay Spiridonov; 1906-1938) was the founder of Yukaghir literature. He was born in a poor Yukaghir family (people in the Russian Far East) and was sent by the Communist Party to Leningrad, where he was educated at the Ethnographic Department of the University. Teki Odulok participated in a scientific expedition to Kolyma and Chukotka, where he gathered information and artifacts of his native people. He became the first person among the minority peoples to receive a PhD in economics.
