Description:
One of 10 000 copies printed.
Ukrainian poet Andrey Malyshko (1912-1970) penned these verses after his visit to the USA and Canada in 1950, a time when the World War II alliance between Russia and the USA had become a distant memory. The full-blown Cold War dominated the political landscape, and there were no traces of their former friendship evident in the verses. It's worth noting that David Samoylov (1920-1990), one of the most prominent Russian poets of the post-war era, made an early appearance with his translation efforts in this book. He contributed five translated verses for the book.

Description:
One of 15.000 copies printed.
First edition.
An unusual book of poems published during the beginning of Cold War, but designed as the best Soviet editions of 1930s. Photoillustration is on the front side of the dust jacket, depicting Mayakovsky posing on the Brooklyn Bridge. In 1925 V. Mayakovsky planned to make a trip around the world, but it didn't work out and the poet didn't get even to the western coast of America and spent three months in USA. The result of the trip was a manuscript of a book of essays Moe otkrytie Ameriki [My discovery of America] and the cycle of poems. Essays interspersed with poems in this edition.
Vasily Katanyan, literary critic, Mayakovsky's biographer and a member of the Left Art Front (LEF), prepared for publication a large corpus of the poet's texts. An editor of this publication was A. Tarasenkov, a famous bibliophile and expert on Soviet poetry of the XXth century.
OCLC locates two copies in USA: in MoMA and Princeton library

This anthology was issued in February 1943 and Rogov was forced to return to Moscow in April. The books include war poetry of well-known contemporary Soviet authors like Konstantin Simonov, Vera Inber, Samuil Marshak, Sergey Mikhalkov, Aleksandr Tvardovsky, all their names appeared in the Rogov's preface. Description:
[Epic of Manas].
The first publication of the Kyrgyz epic of Manas. Published in Kirgizian language by Cyrillic-based alphabet.
Manas is probably the world's longest poem. The whole text was recorded about five hundred years ago, it's traditionally believed that the songs appeared about a thousand years ago. Manas is singing without an accompaniment of any musical instrument. For a long time it existed entirely in the oral form, the Kirgiz had no written language.
Firstly one of songs was written in 1856 by Shoqan Walikhanov, Kazakh ethnographer and participant of The Great Game. He called Manas as "The Iliad of the Steppe". Firstly this song was published in his Russian translation only in 1904.
This publication was prepared by Friedrich Wilhelm Radloff, the German scientist and orientalist. While he was studying Uralic and Altaic languages, he learned Russian, went to work in Siberia and took Russian citizenship. The results of his numerous expeditions were published in his multi-volume edition of… Read More

One of 3 000 copies printed.
First edition.
The suppression of the counterrevolutionary kulak rebellion, led by Ulyalaev, is a notable historical event. In the initial edition of the poem, the literary portrayal of Ulyalaev garnered more attention than that of the communists. As a result, the first edition was confiscated. Subsequently, the text underwent revisions and was republished multiple times.

Description:
Rare samizdat edition of the verses and poem 'Gorbunov and Gorchakov' by Joseph Brodsky. The poem revolves around conversations between Gorbunov and Gorchakov, both of whom are depicted as patients in a mental asylum, resembling a prison-like environment. Brodsky composed this 'auto-therapeutic' poem, often referred to as 'long verses,' between 1965 and 1968. It stands as one of Brodsky's most extensive works, comprising 1,398 verses.
In 1963, at the age of 23, Brodsky was involuntarily admitted to the Kashchenko psychiatric clinic in Moscow and subsequently transferred to Psychiatric Hospital No. 2 ('Priazhka') in Leningrad. This was a result of compulsory treatment due to Brodsky's perceived 'social parasitism' and dissident activities. Following his release in March 1964, Brodsky was sentenced to exile.
The poem was first published in the book 'Ostanovka v pustyne' (Stop in the Desert; New York, 1970) and became available in Russia only in 1999. Its first English publication occurred in the book… Read More
