Elizabeth Bibesco was the daughter of a Prime Minister and married a Romanian prince; an author and a socialite, her work drew on her experiences in European high society, finally dying in Romania during the second World War.

Part of H & S Sevenpenny Library. Undated, but dated 1913 on last page. A mystery novel set in St Moritz, a lovely lady meets a handsome mysterious stranger, who isn’t quite what he seems.

Unclipped dust jacket priced £3.50 inside. 138pp. Foxing to page edges, hence the price and condition status. Still a nice book and otherwise clean. 'In the relentless summer heat, four abruptly orphaned children retreat into a shadowy, isolated world, and find their own strange and unsettling ways of fending for themselves.' A modern classic.

Some edgewear, binding cracked at spine. A little age toning, but generally clean inside. The story of a spoilt prince, who makes a wish, and in the end learns his lesson.

Red cloth boards with gilt titles on spine. 189pp with 10 black and white illustrations by Brock in the text. With a brief biography of Dickens and Thoughts and Questions on the story itself, helpful for putting some of it context, explaining some of the older language / sayings. Also, Dickens and Drama plus The Tale of Valentine and Orson and book adverts for the rest of the series. Previous owners name and school handwritten on front pastedown and endpaper. Very good and clean inside, a nice little edition of this well known Christmas story.

Classic and humurous verses for children. Ex school library with stamp and number on front endpaper. No other library markings, but a few fingerprints.

Binding cracked at front and rear pastedown. Contemporary name written at preface page dated 1868. First Edition. Bottom corner of one page missing, with no loss to illustration. Ex reference library with few markings. Library number on front pastedown and reverse of title page, pictorial bookplate on rear pastedown. Single stamp on upper edge, inner book clean with no other obvious library markings. An ironic and facetious look at Glasgow and some of its notable citizens, much based on true events of the time (1852-1856). A historical novel set in Medieval times.

First edition, 8vo, coloured illustrated dust jacket over red cloth boards with gilt titles on spine. 192pp. Dust jacket unclipped , slightly sunned at spine and with a little edge wear. Nice and clean inside, in very good condition. The lives of two brothers and those around them before and after the second world war. One seems initially successful and the ideal man, whilst the other leads a less conventional life in London, as an artist drifting between gay bars and having encounters. Both lives have their moments and similarities and Brooke explores their fragile existence.
