Chin and others, mild dampstain to the bottom edge of the last 50 pages into the margins, otherwise very good in original pictorial cloth with color photo affixed to the front cover. K. Chin, of Chinese ancestry, was born in Portland, Oregon in 1920, where he received his initial art training at the Portland Museum School of Art and the University of Oregon. During World War II Chin served as a mechanical draftsman with the US Air Corps, at which time he sharpened his skill at rendering detailed images. He served for 4-1/2 years. He illustrated magazine covers for US Army, American Legion, and later, Cue Magazine and Newsweek. [John Stokes of Custom Puzzle Craft!].

Doris Hayashi, then a student, became known for her work with the Japanese American Evacuation and Resettlement Study as a researcher while she was in the Topaz internment camp. Luiz Carlos Prestes, honorary chairman of the National Liberation Alliance, will spend 1941 in the dungeons of Brazil. This Alliance was a unification of all progressive and democratic sections of the Brazilian people. Oakland: Committee on Education and Relief for Japan, 1947. Paperback. [16p.], bound with blue thread, portrait of Kagawa on front panel. Calendar booklet with text on each page about Kagawa Toyohiko's brilliant leadership, pacifist and anti-communist activities, etc. First panel describes him as single-handedly stopping a mob of strikers from destroying a dock yard thanks to the persuasive power granted by God. On another page he compares capitalists to steam engines and cooperatives to electric motors. "You were all right in your day, but it is past." Kagawa was a labor activist and missionary, jailed several times for labor activities as well as for apologizing to China for Japan's occupation in 1940. He was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1947 and 1948, and the Nobel Peace Prize in 1954 and 1955.
