Faintest edgewear, mild crimping along spinefold, quite sound, clean and unmarked.

Sewn textblock (thread & stab-holes visible at back cover). Spine panel is burst for one inch at top, with a chip at the tail, and cover bears a neat small ownership in pencil. Covers mildly edgeworn, a good serviceable copy. Field Columbian Museum, publication 51.

Clearwater, FL: [publisher not identified], 1950. Paperback. 70, [2]pp., wraps. 7.5 x 4.75 in. Covers stained; corner of rear cover creased. The author states that he took a post as a surgeon for a company operating a platinum mine in Chocó. Includes numerous stories about travelers (one who claims to be the brother of the bestselling author Marie Corelli), dangers encountered on the journey, and meetings with local Afro-Colombian and indigenous peoples. Part of a series of adventure stories advertised that take place in U.S. national parks, Florida, and the Congo. Date of publication from latest date mentioned in the text. WorldCat lists only one location as of May 2023.

Sarrebruck [Saarbruck]: Wuco, 1930. Pamphlet. 41p., captioned exhibit images throughout, photoreproduction of steel-engraved pots, pans and tea-balls, presswork on coated alkaline paperstock with spot-color emphases, softbound, a 7.5x5.5 inch pamphlet in embossed wraps printed red and gilt on light green-grey stock. Covers show a little age, with a faint pressuremark and dust, and a faint small stain: good to very good copy with textblock absolutely clean, sound and unmarked.

Urbana: University of Illinois Press, 2001. Paperback. 300p., wraps, very good condition. Handwritten letter signed by Mercier laid in. The Working Class in American History.

San Francisco: L.P. McCarty, Publisher, 1877. Hardcover. 468p., small hardbound in 7x4.5 inch pebbled green cloth boards gilt; mild edgewear, probably from storage rather than from handling, we see signs of sophistication (tinting of abrasions) but even so a largely unhandled copy. Front hinge cracked at the copyright page which, with its verso the titlepage, was tipped onto a front blank, entire volume opens stiffly, compiler Mains plumped for least-expensive binderywork (credited to Spaulding & Barto, Book and Job Printers on Clay St., give them a wide berth). Cloth and gilt are bright, stats doubtless accurate, basically an exemplar what was thought to be important to San Franciscans in the '70s. Preface by compiler says he was encouraged by good sales of his first such annual, this his second, it was followed by further annuals.

Albuquerque: University of New Mexico Press, 1994. Paperback. xxx, 172p., illustrations from old cuts &c; softbound, 8.5x5.5 inch decorated wraps, an as-new copy: entirely sound, clean and unmarked. Mary Jane (Cole) Megquier was, according to family tradition, "the first American woman to cross the Isthmus", ran a successful boardinghouse in San Francisco, and her descriptions of her boarders (some of whom notables) and events show "a power of observation and consideration for detail

Very strong in English-language treatments.

New York: Pantheon Books, 1979. Hardcover. 287p., first edition, signed by Houston, very good condition in a slightly shelf worn dj with a slgihtly faded spine. "A lively novel about the Bisbee deportation. Purists will not like the author's reworking of historical facts." *Miles 5001.

[Barcelona]: Conselleria d'Economia, 1937. Paperback. 78p., plus brief index, small softbound in 6x4 inch tan wraps printed in two colors, staple-fastened textblock with paste-fastened cover, note that ten or so leaves were printed double-wide and are folded to page-size, as issued. Text is printed in the Catalonian language without any translation. Dust-soiled copy, covers are blotchy with stain, soil and foxing, interior less so but still touched with same problems, semi-acidic, handleable, a reading copy. Dated from back cover text, which lists contemporary publications.

New York: Committee for Miners, 1965. Newsletter. 2p., 8.5x14 inch newsletter; in very good condition. Covers the killing of Eastern Kentucky miner Ernest Creech, Boston folk concerts, and more.

Fresno: Academy Library Guild, 1954. 204p., inserted plates (from period photographs), first edition cloth boards. Lacks the dj, light shelfwear, spine lettering a bit dim, a clean sound copy.

Pocket margin faintly sunned, an else very good clean handful of uncommon curiosities.

New twists on Cristmas carols, dedicated to miners of the UMWA. Sample titles: We the Daughters of Mother Jones; Arrest those union gentlemen; I'm dreaming of a fair contract.

New south Wales, Australia: Australian Society for the Study of Labour, 1990. Paperback. 141p., 6x8.5 inch pictorial wraps; back wrapper slightly rubbed, else in very good condition.

London: M. Cooper, 1747. Sewn Binding. Disbound, fragile but complete. 84p., no illustrations whatsoever, presswork on mouldmade paper, each and every leaf held securely in its sequence and fastenings; flaws include remnant adhesions of item as a wraps-issue (see especially the terminal leaf), then as a fascicle in a bound volume (see spine panel). Also expect a somewhat rippled textblock, scattered flecking, ink-spots and smudging. A reading copy in pretty good shape, given the disbinding. Find discussion from an Englishman's point of view, of the problem of The Scottish Accent. The author allows that it will be easier to rid oneself of the (unfortunate) accent than to change customary phrasings.
