On July 12, 1865, his body was moved to Washington, D.C., and placed in a crypt in the Capitol. In 1876, the National Capital Repository was established and the remains of President Lincoln were placed in a sarcophagus there. In 1913, Congress authorized the construction of a national monument to commemorate the 16th president and his life. The Lincoln Monument was dedicated on April 12, 1922.; 8vo ; 458 pages .
