Webb. 4to, 16-pages illustrated throughout in colour. 4to, original coloured pictorial boards; backstrip and corners rubbed, small chip from headband. Generally good. With a later (1940) Wykeham House School, Fareham, prize label awarding this volume adhered to inside of front cover.

Contemporary gift inscription on verso of half-title. Some dustmarking & spotting to binding, spine gilt dulled, overall good.

Small 8vo (6 1/4 x 4 inches). pages: 48:47:(1,blank), contemporary calf backed boards; verty rubbed, backstrip defective. stitching slack. First three woodcuts in the text with old hand-colouring. Imperfect, lacks 2 leaves of text, pages 7-10. Apart that is from the 2 missing leaves this copy collates as the Bodelian Library copy (2527f.1826) that is frontispiece to vol.1 and pages 48:47(1,blank). Anon.

William Darton, London, ca. 1830. Frontispiece and 14 half page illustratioins all coloured by hand as issued.Small 8vo (5 3/4 x 3 3/4 inches). 34-pages printed 1-side only. Original printed wrappers, stitched as issued. Some light creasing, lower wrapper browned and with slight surface loss, 1 1/2 inch tear into one illustration without loss. Inscription dated 1834 on verso of front wrapper. Very rare.

Decorative pictorial title. 4to (11 1/4 x 9 1/4 inches) 162-pages, original cream cloth blocked in gilt. Top edge gilt, others uncut. Foxing to prelims., generally very clean elsewhere. Binding dust-marked and a little spotted. Corner crease to one of the tipped-in colour plates. Brief inscription crossed out on front pastedown.

Watercolour marking on first leaf, foxing and dustmarking, tear to last leaf crudely repaired with paper strips in the 1890's. Re-spined with grained skiver in 1891 when this, together with 20 other children's books of c. 1840's were bound together in one volume. Very rare - no copy cited by Copac.
