Published by Grosset & Dunlap Publishers (NY). No dust jackets. Green hardcovers have fluid stains on spine tails that continue onto the front and rear covers. Hardcovers have bumped corners, worn-through corners and edges, as well as spots, stains, and smudges. Most of the hinges are cracked or have loose hinges and some books have cracked bindings in the textblock. Soiled textblocks. Spines and spine heads & tails are significantly chipped, torn, and discolored. For example, on "Further Adventures" the spine head (where the spine label is at) and the bottom half of the spine backstrip for the book is torn and will eventually deteriorate and come off the spine. Many page corners are or were creased/dog-eared. Previous owner's name on the front free endpapers; there is no other writing in the volumes. Overall, the set is in Acceptable/Poor condition.

Cardboard slipcase has heavy signs of wear, including spots, stains (including a black spot on the illustration), worn-through corners and edges, and a large crack that runs the length of the rear of the slipcase.

The leather on the spine on each volume has heavy cracks, cuts, torn & rubbed spine head and tail; part II has a dime-sized hole in the middle of the spine. There are nicks and scratches to all three sides of the textblock. There are notations on the front endpaper and pastedown and other markings can be found in each volume. Overall, it is in Good minus (G-) condition.
