Description:
South braintree, Massachusetts: Thayer Academy, 1935. The 1935 Black and Orange Yearbook from Thayer Academy in South Braintree, Massachusetts. Voume Fourteen (14.) Cloth bound black hardcover with orange titles on the cover. There is little wear to cover and little tanning to pages. We noted a couple of very small spots on end papers. Front end page has owner's name written in ink and pencilled price. This book does contain some autographs and inscriptions. We also noted that the bottom corner of page 25/26 has had the last photograph cut out of page 25. A black and white photocopy (this is of the yearbook's former owner) replaced the photograph on page 26, but this has left one photograph from page 25 missing. 101 pages including a section of vintage advertisements. There is also an 8x10 color photograph titled "Thayer Academy Class of 1935" stamped Phillips Studio 1985 with 11 (eleven) people. This would be the 50th high school reunion. Most are wearing badges with their… Read More

Description:
Clarke School Alumni Association, 1947. Signed and inscribed by co-editors Alice Manning Williams and John Blake. Rare volume containing a history of the Clarke School for the Deaf, photographs and alumni information for this school for the deaf which offered high school preparatory and pre-vocational educational tracks. Illustrations on glossy black and white paper. Large section of alumni listings, many with checkmarks beside the name. Forward by editor Williams is an interesting snapshot in time: "For a certainty, fifteen alumni are divorced, though only four openly admitted it. All mention of divorces is accordingly omitted...the question "Are you married?" often provoked from the men the reply, "No, but I am looking for a wife." Unfortunately the editor is in no mood to serve as a matrimonial bureau..." Sunned spine and sunned bands across top of book. Paterson, New Jersey: Young Men's and Young Women's Hebrew Association, 1950. Booster Edition. Thursday, May 25, 1950. 25th Anniversary of Paterson, New Jersey Jewish Center. Folio sized stapled magazine binding. Unpaginated, about 40 pages. This volume is a combination of articles, black and white photographs and many advertisements. Selling space in this issue would have been a fundraiser for the group. A gaggle of Bubbe's would have been on the telephone calling the local businesses and selling the ads. The ads generally have a business name or a message from someone, i.e. "Compliments of Mr. and Mrs. David Moskow." There are also vintage product and company advertisements. A photo essay shows the building of the "Y" in 1949 and 1950, other photographs date back to 1906. The majority of candid photos are not captioned, most head shots are captioned, such as "Harry S. Reiman presents Dr. Samuel Singer Trophies to best campers of the 1949… Read More

1956. 8vo softcover with sewn binding (that's quality manufacturing you rarely see today); 318 pages. Volumes like this pick up in detail where a yearbook leaves off (minus the photographs - there are no photos or illustrations in this volume.) The "Records of the Class" section has a brief updated biography written by the subject himself updating his fellow classmate on what he's done in the last 20 years. From Frederick Charles Aber Jr and Adam Abruzzi through William Zimmerman, III and Jerome Seymour Zurkow, most classmates provided an update. There is an "In Memoriam" section which includes a significant number of young men killed in action during World War II, an "Obituaries" section follows, with brief obituaries. A "Geographical Index" identifies where in the world classmates were living at the time of publication. A very brief appendix includes those class members who submitted their biographies after the deadline. This would be a… Read More
