Complete (despite "Vol. 12" on spine) with 11 (2 colored, 5 folding) aquatint plates and 2 folding copper engraved maps. Extensive travel description of the Kingdom of Morocco where Jackson resided for 16 years gathering information about trade and trade routes to Timbuktu and about the city itself. Covers geography, rivers, climate, mountains, culture, economy, zoology (especially snakes), metallurgy, mineralogy, population, Islam and languages, as well as the pandemic of 1799/1800. Bookplate on front pastedown of Major-General Sir Thomas Munro, 1st Baronet (1761-1827), who from 1820 to 1827 was Governor of Madras.

Light wear to bindings with rubbing, mostly to the joints; covers tight. Very Good. W. H. Bartlett. Two 8-1/4" x 10-3/4" volumes in publisher's gilt-decorated full green morocco leather, all edges gilt. Beautifully illustrated with an engraved frontispiece portrait and map, 2 engraved title-pages, and 117 steel engravings after W. H. Bartlett, all with tissue guards.

New York: Harper & Brothers, 27 July 1878. Print. Some edgewear but an at least Very Good example of this fragile item. Folio (11" x 16") extracted from an 1878 issue of HARPER'S WEEKLY, the woodcut image is quite likely the first depiction of blacks playing AmericaÂ’s game.

Two large, heavy quarto (11" x 14") volumes bound together in worn contemporary 1/4 red morocco leather and marbled boards, now loose in binding; viii, [ii], 1022, [1] pages. Illustrated with small heraldic coat-of-arms in the text. One of 350 copies printed.

Octavo (5-1/2" x 9"), uncut, bound in later linen-backed boards retaining the original plain wraps; (22), 246 pages. Dedicated to King Fridrich Wilhelm III of Prussia.

Dublin: Thomas Courtney, 1826. Early Edition. Hardcover. Very nice original condition. Near Fine. Duodecimo (3-1/2" x 5-1/4") in original calf-backed boards titled in gilt on the spine; 180 pages. Frontispiece engraving (laid down on inside front board, as issued?), 4 full-page plates, and several text engravings. A collection of bizarre but true stories, apparently aimed at a younger reader, for the purpose of instruction. Examples include: "Account of a Moving Bog in the County of Galway," "Account of the Snakes of North America and of the Humming Bird," "Affecting Account of a Sale of Slaves," etc.

Middletown, (CT): E. & H. Clark, 1823. First Edition. Hardcover. Ink stamp of McGill University on title page with "Library Medical Faculty McGill University" written in ink as well. Their bookplate on front pastedown, stamped "Withdrawn," along with a Montreal bookseller's ticket. Moderate foxing throughout. Joints splitting but covers tight; spine rubbed with McGill University in gilt at base. Very Good. Small quarto (5-3/8" x 8-3/4") bound in original full calf leather with a red morocco spine label. 484 pages.

Washington: A. & G. Way, 1814. First Edition. Wraps. Very Good. Printed wraps; 18 pages. Appears to be removed from a collection of pamphlets. Prepared by Monroe during his brief term as Secretary of War, this document presents four proposals to recruit men to strengthen U.S. military forces. We are not very knowledgeable about the history of the draft in the United States, but surely this is a very early document.

New York: Greeley and M'Elrath, 1856. First Edition. Pamphlet. Occasional foxing, mostly clean. Very Good. Pamphlet in self wraps; 32 pages. Illustrated with a portrait of Fremont taking more than the first half of the front page and two full-page engravings. A short life of Fremont from his early childhood to his presidential nomination in 1856, the first presidential candidate of the Republican Party. Fremont made his reputation as an explorer and an officer in the Mexican-American War and the Civil War.

New York: Lewis Nichols, 1834. First Edition. Softcover. Small stain on title, last few pages foxed, spine frayed. Very Good. Plain blue wraps (3-1/4" x 5-1/4"); 68 [1] pages. With errata slip. Apparently the other parts were never published. The author attempts to simplify the science of numbers to enable one to make computations more quickly and easily .A scarce little book. We could find no other copies for sale and no auction records. OCLC records only the copy at Harvard.

Title page and dedication page with dampstaining and restoration; plates with fine contemporary coloring, one with a closed tear to margin not affecting the image. Hinges starting, covers still firm; rubbing and fading to spine. Very Good. Quarto (8" x 10-1/2") bound in full polished calf leather by Casa Calero Madrid with gilt-lettered spine with four raised bands, all edges marbled; xii, 382, [1] pages. Complete with large folding engraved map and 17 hand-colored lithographic plates after Lyon, by M. Gauci, G. Harley, or D. Dighton. Lyon, disguised as a Muslim, left Tripoli to discover the source of the Niger river. The hand-colored plates depict scenes and traditional Libyan clothes. ABBEY TRAVEL, 404.
