New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1914. Reprint. Hardcover. Covers soiled; paper splits to hinges but covers very tight. Very Good overall. Decorated red cloth. INSCRIBED and SIGNED by the author on the front endpaper: "To Elon H. Hooker/with best wishes of/Andrew Carnegie/February 28th 1917." Elon Huntington Hooker (1869-1938) was a chemist and hydrodynamic engineer who founded Hooker Electrochemical Company in 1905. His daughter, Blanchette, married John D. Rockefeller III. Another daughter married writer John Marquand.

Decorated red cloth, part of the Famous Scots Series and likely published in the same year as the American edition, 1905. Carnegie's biography of the inventor of the steam engine. INSCRIBED on the half-title page by the author "To Alexander Booth Esq/Laurel Bank/Dalkeith Road/Dundee" and SIGNED in full "Andrew Carnegie." Laid in is a four-page publisher's catalog.

INSCRIBED and SIGNED by the author on the blank page facing the title page: "To J. J. Campbell/Friend & veteran(?)/With regards/Andrew Carnegie/New York/Jany 1st/1903." Campbell was auditor for the Carnegie Steel Company. Campbell has written in pencil on the title page: "Read with much pleasure and interest in the spring of 1903."
