Inner hinges carefully strengthened. Printed title soiled and creased. Followed by an engraving of angels holding the Holy Bible. Followed by the Preface starting on p.5. Pages generally soiled ( a few creased ), with numerous engravings (Full-page engravings include: Buckingham Palace; The Chinese Mandarin; ploughing The Fields; Roger William And The Indians; St. George's Church, Leicester.). A well preserved little book.

VG.** "William George Ward, (1812-1882), English author and theologian, one of the leaders of the Oxford movement, which sought to revive in Anglicanism the High Church ideals of the later 17th-century church. He eventually became a convert to Roman Catholicism.Ward was educated at Christ Church, Oxford, and became a fellow of Balliol College, Oxford, in 1834. He was ordained in the Anglican church in 1840.
