New York: Playbill, 1956. Original Programs . Paper. Two original playbills from the early career of the legendary musical star Barbara Cook. The first one is an opening night playbill for the musical "Candide" that starred Cook in this operetta based on the Voltaire satire. The show had a book by Lillian Hellman and a score by Leonard Bernstein. The second playbill is from what is probably Ms. Cook's most famous show "The Music Man" for which she won a Tony award. The cover art is by Tony Walton. Both playbills are fine. Also included is a 20pg. souvenir program from another early Cook musical "Plain and Fancy" which is from later in the run. The program is illustrated with many photos of the young and slim Barbara Cook. Fine. Sold as a collection only.

Conn.: New Directions, 1945. First Edition . Cloth with Dustjacket. The true first edition of eleven short plays by the great playwright including 27 Wagons Full Of Cotton which was later adapted by Williams into his original screenplay "Baby Doll." Also includes the very short play "This Property Is Condemned" which was made into a poorly received film in 1966 with Natalie Wood & Robert Redford in the leads & a screenplay by Francis Ford Coppola. Some shallow chipping to the back panel of the dustjacket also minute chipping to the top edge of the front panel, and the spine panel. Small bump to the top corner of the cloth. The insides are fine. Uncommon in the first printing.

New York: Playbill, 1977. Playbill . Paper. SIGNED BY LIZA MINNELLI AND BARRY NELSON ON THE FRONT COVER. The act was the ill-fated musical that was directed by Martin Scorsese of all people who did not have a very good time of it. "I was doing a stage play-the only one I'll ever do, I think-called The Act, with Liza Minnelli, and I was having a very very bad time." The show had music & lyrics by Kander & Ebb but only ran for a meager 233 performances but still managed to get 6 Tony nominations including a win for Ms. Minnelli. Liza has signed it "Love Liza" with a little smiley face. Split to the bottom edge of the program's cover and a tiny tear to the bottom edge otherwise fine.

New York: Mercury Records, 1964. 1st Recording . Boxed Set. Nice boxed 4 record set of Miller's thinly disguised play about his marriage to Monroe. Peformed by the Repertory Theatre of Lincoln Center, the cast included Jason Robards, Hal Holbrook, Barbara Loden David Wayne Ralph Meeker & Faye Dunaway. Inclds. large 20pg. booklet. Uncommon. Fine/fine.

Nice 20pg. souvenir program for the award winning and popular musical that was based on the life and music of Fats Waller. The show ran for 1604 performances and won Tonys for Best Musical, director and a supporting muscial Tony for Nell Carter. The program is signed by CHARLIANE WOODWARD (ON THE COVER), NELL CARTER, ANDRE SHIELDS, ARMELIA McQUEEN, KEN PAGE & RICHARD MALTBY JR. (the director of the show) Illustrated with many photos + critical blurbs on the back cover which indicates that the program is from later in its long run. Vg.

The true 1st appearance of this one act play by Edna St. Vincent Millay is published in the well known British literary magazine that first appeared in 1919. The cover is illustrated with a wonderful two color drawing by Albert R of the characters from the play. The play itself is in fine condition and is separated from the covers which have light chipping and a few small pieces missing along with discrete mends using acetate free archival tape. Quite nice.

New York: Random House, 1961. 1st Printing . Boards & Cloth with Dustjacket. SIGNED BY JASON ROBARDS AND HUME CRONYN. First play by Hugh Wheeler who later went on to write the books for several Stephen Sondheim musicals including "A Little Night Music" and "Sweeney Todd." Wheeler also wrote many mysteries under the pseudonyms of Patrick Quentin and Q Patrick. The play was directed by John Gielgud and had a nice cast that included Ruth White, George Grizzard, Elizabet Wilson, Martin Gable and the two signees Robards and Cronyn. Although it ran for only 101 performances it won two Tony Awards one for Gielgud's direction and a supporting Tony for Martin Gable. Illustrated with 3 interior photos + one pasted on the front cover. A touch of toning to the white back panel and spine which also has a tiny touch of chipping. Fine/fine. Also included is the original playbill for the production.

Made into a film a year later with mixed results and reviews. Carol Lynley repeated her role in the film. Illustrated with 5 interior photos + tipped photo on cover. Fine/fine.

There is extensive wear to the dustjacket 2" piece missing from the front panel, light chipping here and there. Small newspaper clipping laid in of Kanin's published small piece on Judy Holliday from the New York Times after her untimely death in 1965. . Small spot ot front edge. 1 photo on frontispiece. ALSO LAID IN IS A SMALL INSCRIBED AND SIGNED "WITH THE COMPLIMENTS OF CARD" THE FRONT HAS A SMALL ILLUSTRATION OF A HAND HOLDING A BOQUET OF FLOWERS WITH GARSON KANIN'S NAME PRINTED ON IT. Holliday made a big splash in the play and went on to repeat her role in the film version and won an Oscar.
