An earlier inscription at lower edge of title page with oval stamp over it of Bibliotheca C.SS. R., Ilchester, Maryland. Small embossed stamp on title page verso and last page of text of Bibliotheca St. Alphonsus, Esopus, N.Y. A biographical work in prose and poetry by Cornelis de Corte (1590?-1638) about St. Nicholas of Tolentino (c. 1246-1305). Scarce. The first edition of the first two parts of the author's history of Spain under the Goths and the Moors. The third and fourth parts of the history were published in 1653. In Very Good Condition: fore-edge of front cover curling up; occasional light soiling; some pages browned.

Published anonymously but attributed to the defendant, Charles Cornwallis, 3rd Baron Conwallis (1655-1698), who was tried for murder. He and another man, Charles Gerrard, while drunk and disorderly in the middle of the night threatened a sentinel (who was able to defend himself) and then two young men who were passing by. Gerrard attacked one of the young men, breaking his neck and killing him. Cornwallis was found not guilty of murder (although six of his peers found him guilty of manslaughter). In Near Fine- Condition: pages are lightly soiled.

First edition. Published anonymously, but written by Pierre Du Moulin. See J. Shawcross, Milton: A Bibliography for the Years 1624-1700, p. 285; annotation on Thomason copy: "March. 22. London". An attack on John Milton's "Pro Populo Anglicano Defensio" (published 1651), Cromwell, and the executioners of Charles I in 1649. Milton replied in his Defensio Secunda, 1654. In Very Good+ Condition: vellum is somewhat stained and soiled; some vellum rubbed away along front fore-edge; old ink marks on front free endpaper; pages are otherwise clean and tight.

Sigismondo Scaccia (1564-1634), an Italian jurist, wrote several important works on financial law and criminal law. In Very Good Condition: loss from lower edge of spine label, without loss of title; boards are rubbed with resulting loss of paper, primarily along edges; foxing and minor staining; otherwise clean and tight.
