Jerusalem: American Colony Photograph Studio, 1914. No Binding. Near Fine. Two original, hand coloured photographs, by the American Colony Studio, Jerusalem, circa 1914. Studio name embossed lower right corner on each photo. Visible photo size is 8.5 X 11 inches. Frame size is 14.5 X 17 inches. Old Bedouin Woman and Ramallah Peasant Spinning Wool. Matted and framed in Glasgow by Porteous & Co. Both, excellent examples. Please appreciate that my photographs were taken under low light to help buffer the glare from the glass. The American Colony in Jerusalem was started in 1881 by Anna and Horatio Spafford of Chicago and was later joined by a group of Swedish-American Christians. They engaged in philanthropic work among the people of Jerusalem building the trust of the local Muslim, Jewish, and other Christian communities. Excellent quality photograph, 10.5 x 6.5 inches (27x16 cm) mounted on heavy card stock 15x11 inches (38x28 cm) with "Wilson Studio, Chilliwack, B.C." blind stamped at the bottom right corner. Note, a very small tear in the photo, top right corner and some typical light soiling to card stock. An excellent example.

Dawson, Y.T.: Larss & Duclos, 1903. First Edition . Loose Photographs . Near Fine. 7 x 9 Inches. From the Dawson City photography studio of Per Edvard Larss and Joseph E.N. Duclos; a charming portrait of a baby girl dressed for a colder climate, 1903. Oval photograph (3.5 X 5") in excellent condition, mounted on heavy card stock, 7X9 inches. Information on the back of the photo dates the image. Duclos, (1863-1917) was born in Quebec and learned his photography skills in Maine. Moving to Dawson in 1898, Duclos worked as a miner until 1899, then joined Larss to build the studio which they ran to 1904. Larss then left the Yukon, leaving Duclos on his own in Dawson until 1912. Many of their studio portraits, scenes of Dawson, the Chilkoot Pass, and the Yukon Territory during the Klondike Gold Rush, are held in Canadian archives and North American special collections.

Photo is 5.5 X 9.5 inches and framing card stock is 10 X 14 inches. Bullen (1880-1963) worked at various commercial printing and photographic work in Vancouver, 1909-1948. An excellent example.
